Goalies don't work as captains. Ask Dino Zoff.

Is it though? He's been a great player for club and country but I don't think many England fans will be devastated regarding his retirement.

It's obviously time to move on, he's old enough to be most of our grandads, but it's sad to see us lose a great player and to see a legend hang up his boots.

Any England fan who's not sad to see his international career come to an end is just a plastic glory hunter type.

When did Scholes last make himself available for England selection?

What a pity some can't simply recognise and applaud a bloody brilliant career and contribution to the game. You might not have the wit to realise it but the likes of Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard carved an England career despite some w**k managers and even worse team mates. I applaud the lad, a real star of our game.

About time, too? Better is waiting in droves, eh!

I don't the hysteria about Scholes.

He was great for Utd, but never really did for England. He then quit in his prime because he was being played out of position.

Scholes was the worst of the 'golden generation' for England. Yeah he had a good career for United, but retiring at what? 30? from international duty because the team wasn't built around him? **** off.

Same goes for Ben Foster, John Terry and anyone else who retires from England. You say you're retired once and that's it.

You have got to be kidding. Scholes is the best England player of the last 30yrs!!! He retired from International football when he thought he couldn't give it his best. They say 'concentrate on my club football' purely to justify it.

I'm sorry, but Scholes was comfortably the best English player since Gazza.

To say he's poor because he retired from international football is just bollocks. Does that mean he isn't good.

He retired because Sven was inept tactically and refused to play him in a position he was good in, rather than one he never played in, all to accommodate a player (Lampard) who wasn't even as good as he was.

If Lionel Messi retired from the Argentina national team now, would you say he's one of the worst of that bunch? Would you ****.

Gerrard has not played well for England in years but he always gave his all.Rooney needs to go,the sooner the better. If woy had any pride he would have walked after our disaster in Brazil.
