Wasn't the talisman at the world cup. Good player but much better club career, just like most English players.

Never looked like he enjoyed it. Old Guard needed shifting though good luck to the new blood.

I kind of retired from international football myself a while back now. Just being a QPR supporter gives me the joy/heartache overload that I'm willing to bear in a lifetime.

Don't get me wrong I would always want my national team to do the best they can, the way things currently are I'm sorry to say I can't see England winning any trophy in my lifetime.

England will win a major trophy. I know exactly where and when .... but if I told you then I'd have to kill you and that would defeat the object and your's would be a self fulfilling prophecy!

Gerrard has been one of the best players of his generation. A freak of nature when he was young, he had pace, power, skill, vision and could tackle.

This is the right time and I wish him well for his future at club level.

    A favourite player of mine.
Always had him as the best defensive CM in the world but was never allowed to play there as it would have ben a waste of his talent.

Would loved to have sen him At Real Madrid TBH but credit to him for sticking with Liverpool (what ever the reasons)

    Good luck to him <ok>

Another player who suffered from the misguided beliefs of many England managers that, because of his talent, he can play virtually any role. The fact he and Lampard were often played unsuitably just to accommodate both of them was to the detriment of the players and the team. One day we'll get a manager who has a system and then chooses the right players to fill it not just big names, Rooney is the latest example of this folly...
