Desert Orchid is beginning to get up as they race towrds the line. There's a tremendous cheer from the crowd as Desert Orchid is going to win it. Desert Orchid has won the Gold Cup".
Why is Six Wives 25/1 for the 6 45 Beverley tomorrow? Might not win but I'm happy to take the 25s e/w on what should be a 8/1 shot. Medici time at 10s is hilarious, hasn't even won for over 2 years
Ah, Desert Orchid, what a horse. Here's another great one, One Man pulverizing the field with his jumping in the 1998 Queen Mother Champion Chase. Sorry, don't know how to put the clip on direct like the experts! What a massive horse that Ask Tom was, absolutely dwarfed One Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N2WHYfPEco What a shame connections took so long to realise that this was One Man's distance at Cheltenham. He could well have won this race three or four times? So tragic when he died at Aintree just two or three weeks after this great win.
HEY YOU 6:25 Windsor 4/1 in a race Hughes/Hannon have won for the last three years. A fair chunk of the weekends winnings going on this one tonight. I also like two at Cartmel. More fun bets than serious stuff though. THE GOOD GUY 3:05 took 10/1 and DYNAMIC DRIVE 5:15.
BELATED Boooooooooooooooooooooooooommmm .. to SBC for ATHENIAN on Saturday , what a delightful name for a winner !!! .. cheers ...
Afternoon, all. I thought ATHENIAN did it very well off 92 on Saturday, at Newmarket, especially when you consider that (a) she stumbled after leaving the stalls and (b) the ‘good to firm, good in places’ ground was probably faster than her ideal. Sir Mark Prescott also proved that not only is he a total rogue but he’s also a master at readying one to oblige on their seasonal return. From the market, as there has been next to no contraction in the mares odds, it doesn’t appear that she will be going for either Saturday’s ‘International Handicap’ or next weekends ‘Stewards Cup’. However, and I do mean however, old boy Prescott has since I last wrote put Athenian in a Listed race across the water at Naas on Wednesday. It’s not the strongest type of its race ever held and to be honest Athenian should be able to place at the very least in the contest. In fact as her perch is likely to rise roughly 5 pounds after Saturday she will almost be on a par with those that are rated the highest on official figures. I guess how she comes out of the race at the weekend will determine whether or not the Naas engagement is taken up but the old girl looks more than capable of going very close should she be OK after Saturday. I await the final decs with keen interest. Good luck to those wagering today.
14:45 Ayr - Red Cobra (Going and distance should be ideal for this bottomweight, so will take a bit of the 10/1 generally available).
I am just wondering If Sir Mark Prescott is so shrewd as people are always suggesting why does he often send horses to places like Ayr for tin pot races. I am just wondering as he has just had a horse beaten at Ayr in a £2911 race. Now there are so many race courses and such a lot of racing this time of year and yet he sends 1 horse on a 720 mile round trip for a race of that value. That does not sound very smart to me. He does it often however and I believe Mick Channon also is happy to send horses up north for small races, although he usually sends a team rather than just the one. It just seems unnecessary to me as the petrol and cost of such a venture as todays would surely write off any winnings even if it won, which incidentally it didn't. Surely you would want the race to be worth at least 10k to warrant travelling 720 miles.
Shouldn't do this after a loser, but small win on Dubai Dyanamo in the next at Ayr (16:55). Hissing down here, think I'll take a walk in it...
And while I am on my high horse Marcus Tregonning is sending New colours not quite so far (only 500 miles) for the last at Beverley tonight. The race is worth £3,200 and takes place at 8.45. They will be lucky to get home by 2 am. Could that horse not have run somewhere else nearer to home. Now it may win but surely the race planner within the stables could see the possible pointlessness with that idea. It would not be so bad if he was sending 3 runners but this again is a solitary runner. Right I will go and have a lie down now.
