Via Twitter....

Clarke said:

* Kieran Preston’s distribution was excellent at times. He made one or two minor errors but did really well.

* Jake Gosling was neat and tidy on the ball and makes things happen for us.

* Trialist Dan Thompson picked up an injury. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of him.

* Trialist Neal Trotman was solid. He played a a full season at Plymouth last year, is experienced and a good organiser.

* We will make decisions on Trialists Pierce Mitchell and Ryan Higgins early next week.

* Ryan Brunt will feature at Yeovil, which is good news, as he’s trained really well and is looking sharp.

* Michael Smith still our player. He's had had a slight injury. It's too early to say if he will feature on Tuesday.

* I have a verbally agreed a contract with a player and hope that will go through on Monday.

Talk is cheap, sorry about the negativity but the same old trash is spouted out. And still the injuries continue to hit Rovers players, are they really such a bunch of softies ?

I hope not. A 37 yr old CB!
I think we still need a tall striker. The ones we've signed haven't shown much pre-season, and I can't
see Brunt playing a whole season with us. I liked the look of Thompson who played yesterday.

it kind of gives it away that it aint 1 of the trialist. he talks seperately about the trialists saying he would have liked to see thompson before he got injured, trotman was solid and will make a decision early this week on mitchell and higgins. i am 100% certain it aint 1 of the trialist <whistle>

To carry on from my last comment.....

More info about the possible new signing is in todays Post...

"Clarke revealed that he had a verbal agreement in place from an unnamed player. Should a deal be completed, it is understood that the player in question would add a considerable amount of Football League experience to Clarke’s squad. Clarke is also set to have another look at former Plymouth Argyle defender Neal Trotman and former Portsmouth youth team striker Dan Thompson at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night after both impressed during this afternoon’s defeat. The manager is also set to make decisions either way on the other two trialists – Pierce Mitchell and Ryan Higgins – early next week."

So the local rag is under the impression that the new signing is not 1 of the trialists <ok>

On the Bath game itself, Clarke defended his decision to field a second-string team in the game at Twerton Park. Clarke rested nine first-team regulars and said:

“We’ve had to play the youngsters because we have only got 14 senior professionals within the squad at this moment in time. The last thing I want to be doing is picking up injuries before the new season. If I was desperate to win the game I’d have taken my first-team, but I have to be mindful of the squad. It is always going to be difficult when you put out a team that has never played together before, but the youngsters have to learn pretty quickly and these sorts of experiences will help them.”

Good player though. It won't be Carey btw as he'd go some way to tarnishing his reputation at Ashton Gate, as well as the fact that Clarke doesn't go for older players (over 33)
