Your deluded no player in the championship is worth 14m ! I'm not having ago but in my opinion he doesn't improve what you have
I really meant that, when he's proven he is Prem quality, his value may well double. I suppose you'd have called a Southampton fan deluded if he'd said the same about Lallana or Lambert a couple of years ago. Besides, of course you can have £14m players in the Championship. McCormack has just moved from one Championship club to another for £11m! I doubt you know much about Ulloa to be fair. Your club wasn't even in the Championship last year, so unless you're a secret season ticket holder at Brighton, I doubt you saw much of him. You say you're not "having a go" but you come on to our board to tell us a player you've hardly seen will add nothing to our squad. Sounds like WUMing to be I'm afraid.
I'm not interested in winding people up , and in my opinion (I may be wrong ) he isn't good enough and doesn't improve on what you have , and the football world has gone mad 11m for McCormack your having a laugh !
In your defence Fettis, without double checking, Hull did play Brighton at least once in the cup and I think Ulloa scored twice (correct me if I'm wrong) so you would have seen him play in those games. He may well have looked average against Hull but he score a couple of goals against a good premier league team who reached the final so if he can look average and score goals against the likes of Hull this season it'll be a grea signing
Disagree with you there - I say we are paying way over the odds for him. No point in complaining now, lets just see if he can prove me and Fettis et al wrong.
If he keeps us up, he'll be worth more than £7m to us. Literally. I have said myself that I haven't seen enough of him to make a decision on whether he's worth £7m-£10m or not (and I'm damn sure Fettis hasn't, even if he did see Hull play Brighton in the FA Cup) but I trust Pearson and his management team, which has very rarely led us astray in a combined 4 1/2 years at the club. Pearson is very frugal, so if he's willing to pay £7m, he must be a Hell of a player in his eyes (if it was late Aug I'd have suggested it was a panic buy but signing him at this stage of pre-season suggests this was all part of the plan). It's a gamble for sure, but whether we're for or against the signing, no-one really knows if he will cut it in the Prem because he hasn't played in it before. I personally would have preferred a proven Prem player, but we may have been looking at double what we've paid for that. If this comes off, Pearson has shown his ingenuity again. If it doesn't, well, it looks like we'll still have Vardy, Nugent and Campbell and could always take someone on loan.
Don't disagree with you on that. But We're not in the Championship and £7m is not that much in the Prem. Brighton have a player than they believe is above Championship class (which does happen, despite your disbelief) and our manager agrees. To say he's no better than we have is to say he's only as good as Chris Wood or Gary Taylor-Fletcher (at the minute our third and fourth choice strikers) which I simply cannot agree with.
I keep saying .... 7m is peanuts why such a drama. Very nice of the hull fans to be showing their concern as usual too bless em. I see WBA just splashed 10 million on a Nigerian forward and Sunderland 14 million for Borini! Not sure he is twice as good as Ulloa. Time will tell but Inhave a feeling we will look back at the end of the season and think what a steal 7m was for the big man Ulloa
Good points Miami £7m in the Premiership is pretty standard now! Now, if we had bought some unheard of Nigerian, or, for me, especially if we had signed Borinin for £14m then I would complain/be worried!!!
While I think we may be paying more then we probably should you just have to realise thats the market values nowadays. I rate Leonardo Ulloa from the bits I have seen of him and after seeing some of his finishes on youtube he does look a natural finisher. I also trust Nigel Pearson because clearly he wants him with him making 5 bids and paying around 7M Nigel's track record when it comes to spending a bit of money has been nothing short of superb in both spells His major signings first time around in Paul Gallagher and Richie Wellens was both very good players for us for a number of years This time around Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan, Ben Marshall, Matty James, Ritchie De Laet, Jamie Vardy and Chris Wood have all achieved success and was good signings. So Nigel has been very good with spending in the past so I trust him now
Amen to that brother ... this is the new world not the Briely's (for those old enough to remember ) running of the club by the Shipmans ...
Pretty good summary Proud ... as I've said countless times, I'm sure there have been in-depth conversations with our club captain on how much of a player this guy is ... and I suspect Wes said something along the lines of "Gaffer would much rather have the ****** on our side than have to play against him again!!" If it's also true that we are now favourites to sign Slimani http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/l...-palace-west-ham-drop-out-the-picture-a-bola/ then we are in for the best footballing helter skelter ride of Leicester City's history
I bet Nigel Pearson has had a chat with Dean Hammond and Matt Upson about Ulloa aswell to try and get some background on his character. Nigel likes to cover all angles when it comes to transfers and especially with it being so expensive
The Sun reported today that the price for Ulloa is £8mill upfront with £2 mill of add ons depending on appearances.......So £10 million altogether
I wasn't on about the price or ulloa ability compared to Prossie. I was on about all the arguing that lasted over that carthorse for the whole of season 2012/3 when we (Hull City) won promotion in 2013.
To be fair, he didn't play our Premier League team, he played against a largely reserve team in both games and to be honest, I can't remember anything about his performance in either game. I'll pay more attention next time I see him.
I know Long and Jelevic were cup tied as I went to the semi-final and up front you were weakened but elsewhere you played definite premier league quality (Davies, Huddlestone, Livermore etc) but I don't know if those guys played vs Brighton. But anyway, however strong the team was, my point was that if a striker scores but still looks average then he has still done his job, I wasn't focusing too much on the quality of the Hull side that particular day
His goal in the first game was excellent and his overall performance in that match was good. In the second game he was largely anonymous and, if my memory serves me right, his touch on the ball had minimal effect as it appeared to be going in anyway. As for the "is he worth it?" debate I would say that he probably is - he's a decent striker who looks capable of stepping up to the higher level. The price paid may seem high but it simply reflects the current going rate and, by the end of the transfer window, might actually look quite modest.
