on Friday night hullfc were away to league leaders wigan. Like City playing away to Manchester United/City on a Friday night. I was on a scouting mission starting off at the Wareners Gym on Pickering Road. Loads of young lads, probably under 12's, 75% in Hull City shirts, the odd Liverpool shirt, one Man Utd, and the coach, bloke 30 plus in a Hull FC shirt teaching kids how to play football.
Moved on to the Bonus Arena which is FC's training gym apparently. Loads of FC crests, players photos, action shots etc on show, no football, no City, but a 5 a side football pitch! Slogan painted on the wall. 'Champions are made when no-one is there to see'......is that a reference to the **** crowds? Moved to County Road, five a side, 95% of the lads playing in City shirts, dads watching 50% in FC shirts 50% in Liverpool shirts.
Onto the city centre, average age 25 -45 plenty of fatties waddling about in FC shirts, Liverpool everywhere, even Arsenal. Two City shirts.
East Hull, park pitch, lads playing average age about 15, again 75% City shirts, odd Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and one Leeds, dads watching ? FC, Rovers, and Liverpool.
    Onto Noddle Hill.
Lads actually playing football......99% City shirts, dads watching ? of those watching who were wearing replica shirts, Liverpool, FC, one City, and Chelsea.
Conclusion; we are winning the younger generation, it's the phoney dads we have to work on.

Seen 3 Barca shirts today : one teen, two adults

One LFC shirt : usual doley type middle-aged male

    3 City shirts: all kids

    1 Arsenal: middle aged bloke

People very rarely change football teams, which is why it's so important to get the kids' attention.

Sounds a pretty good straw poll, and I would say does give a quite accurate picture how things are. I am an older person, and have stayed loyal to City all my life, but have seen many others who got interested watch football by initially going to watch city, but then got disillusioned because City were struggling, and defected to supporting a successful club like Man U and Liverpool.

The younger generation are seeing City as a successful team to follow, so that is where the future lies, and I hope City do whatever they can by offering cheaper tickets for School kids, as they are the future fans who will increase the fan base of our great club.

I think a lot of older fans from Hull would tie themselves to City where they have a proper attachment to the club, but changing clubs is frowned upon, and the ridicule that would follow stops them.

There's a Man U fan close to me, always has been since I moved to this seat, who's a season ticket holder. Can tell he's more of a city fan but just doesn't admit it.

I live in Cambridgeshire, and obviously there isn't a huge range of clubs to support round here, basically boils down to Posh or Cambridge depending on where you live in the county. But all the top 6 are massively represented round here.

Wandering round Tesco yesterday losing the will to live with the missus, spotted a fella in a Liverpool top who looked at me and looked at my Hull City top. "Aww you from Hull then? Unlucky" the slack jawed local says to me. In his Fen Cockney accent.

"Me? No. I'm just a plastic, glory hunting inadequate who decided to jump on the bandwagon and support Hull cos they had a good season and got to the FA Cup Final and because my local team is **** and no one supports them. Whereabouts in Liverpool are you from?"

He thought about a response, went bright red, mumbled, glared, and wandered off.

My missus actually laughed at him.

I quite often use the "ooo whereabouts in <insert name of place represented on a shirt> are you from?", always makes me laugh at their discomfort. Some try to claim they've always supported said team but easy response to that is "doesn't really excuse it does it? Imagine how well Posh would be doing if you actually supported them. You could even go and watch them play actually live too, you should try it".

I was in the Avenue with a bunch of mates after a home game about 15 years ago. one of our number was a Liverpool fan, but often came with us to city home games.

Anyway, i noticed said plastic looking miserable, staring into his pint, so i asked what was up. He took a deep breath "ahh i'm a f**ing City fan aren't i". You had to be there,we all burst out laughing and i bought him a pint.

They say you can change anything, even your women, but you can't change your team. I'd agree with that, but surely when you change to support your home town team, your doing the right thing ?

With no 'Hull City' on the badge, season ticket, and probably at the stadium when we turn up this season I just hope the kids know who they are supposed to support!

Supporting one of the glory clubs is just symptomatic of the laziness that's crept into society over the last 40+ years
Everybody just wants everything instantly like success and aren't prepared to wait or work for it.
Yes I must agree with one of the comments on here. You shouldn't change your team but when you change it to your home city/ town it's RIGHT

How close must you be to a team to support it? How many smaller teams is it permitted to bypass in getting there? Should you be obliged to support the team of the place you were born, even though you moved away early in your life (or later, even)? Should your families choice dictate yours? Is loyalty the important thing in supporting any team or does some fanciful loyalty to a place supersede that? Why do some folk not only feel qualified to judge others, but go out of their way to pass on that judgement? Sadly, it does seem to matter to some folk. Support the team you want to support, stay loyal and enjoy the experience; when you lose the fun of it, stop supporting and let them that enjoy it get on with it.

How did the OP have so much time to sit and work out those stats without getting lynched?

It's a point we raised in a thread before and I was saying how a majority of the kids at my work now bring Hull City shirts as their PE kit rather than the others. Although part of that is my doing of telling them how they support the wrong team. For example we had a new boy start and he wore a Leeds shirt his dad wanted him to wear. For weeks I told him how he'd win nothing wearing that shirt and he needed to get a City shirt. Thankfully he's listened and changed his PE kit.

I'm doing my bit... Let's build the campaign!

Keep up the good work. You're not the caretaker helping them on and off with their kits though are you? Just checking!! :police:

The OP will never get lynched, plenty have tried and none have succeeded yet. I'm also good at maths and observation. Plus I can spot a phoney **** from 100 yards.

In my family we have (just counting the males) 3 Southampton supporters (two season pass holders) 1 Everton, 2 Man City and 4 Hull City season pass holders. But if you count the ones who support Hull City as well as another club in with the season pass holders there are 8 out of the 10.
