If you had the option of signing Dawson & Maguire (together) or Caulker what would you choose?

There is nothing to say we are interested but I was interested to find peoples opinions on this board.

It was a question I was thinking to myself when QPR had a bid accepted.

Dawson - proven, veteran and played at the top level.////// Could be past his best, injury prone? and likely high wages and relatively high fee.

Maguire - Highly regarded, young, hungry and spoken of his desire to join us. /////// Unproven, risky, seemingly unrealistic transfer fee.

Caulker - Young. Brink of England team. Proven. Highly regarded. Less wages than the other two mention (combined). Knows Hudd and Liv ////// Could be expensive

I'd take Caulker every time. He got a lot of **** on here cos of the comparisons with Curtis but he's a good player. Has he signed for anyone yet then?

£8million bid accepted by Cardiff from QPR and they are currently working on the contract.

Really good player but probably just out of our price range. Especially after the business we have already done.

I would take Caulker over both, proven and has age on his side. Although it is not Maguires fault, I would tell Sheff Utd to ram it and move on. Try hijack the caulker deal. I heard a fee was agreed with QPR....I think.

Aye, Caulker needs a couple of seasons playing alongside class centre halfs like Davies and Chester to develop his potential. Be a good third choice right now.

I've given Caulker some grief in the past but I'd have him, not at £8M though.

Agree with this, but would have though £8m was a bit steep.

Interesting that we think we are over paying for new players, but if you look around all Premier League clubs are. And I haven't even started on Fulham..........£11m for a Championship striker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is he really three times as good as Ricky Lambert? Commercial suicide I would have thought.

I think Caulker is **** and over rated. I'm going with Maguire and Dawson.

I'd say we need 3 centre halves at the moment, so we have dawson who is better than Caulker currently and hopefully Maguire can eclipse him in the future. If it was less than £8million it'd be Caulker for sure.

You don't pay £8m for third choice centre backs.

I think the chance to play alongside Rio at QPR probably made his decision to move there. Potential England CH but probably not what we need this season.

Worth every penny if he scores like he did last season and gets them back into the PL.

Agreed. Rumours today that Caulker is waiting to see if anyone else wants him and why rush to DQPR anyway ?

If Saints do sell Lovren to Liverpool then he could be the replacement.

Micah Richards on loan would be ideal...

Ok, tongue was slightly in cheek. I'd have him given the choice in the op, but not for £8 mil.

On that scale Chester will be worth a fair wack by the next transfer window. A regular in a top premier league defence and an established international by then.

Forget Dawson, I'd have Robertson and Maguire over Caulker.

Martin Kelly for me around 5 mill, young, cover all back 4, could easily be England centre half material

Dawson looks a bit **** in this game against Seattle Sounders on BT sports...they're going past him with ease
