I've got a staffy (see avatar) couldn't catch a cat to save his life but a brilliant dog, totally loyal and nothing like their reputation suggests. I've also got an air rifle for the cats, just shoot at their feet and they won't come back. Or douse them in water if you can get near enough, that keeps them away.

Contech Scarecrow from Amazon about£50, attache to your outside tap or inside will do, stick it in the ground and when it senses motion it squirts a jet of water whihc can be adjusted for distance and width, works a treat, they learn you see? and change their routine. 9V Battery lasts a 'season'
    Highly recommended
    good fun to watch.

How about a Boston terrier, small and cute enough for the good lady but still a proper dog that you can train and throw a ball for. I don't know for sure but I imagine it hates cats as much as any other dog.

Staffys are an amazing breed. Real people lovers. Nothing like how newspapers portray them. Absolutely loads in animal shelters too.

I prefer French bulldogs to Boston terriers, as they are a more typical bulldog type.

A Manchester terrier would be a alternative option for a small dog. Small enough for the missus, and look like a miniature pinscher which itself looks like a small Doberman.

It should be compulsory for cats to wear bell collars to protect the wildlife such as birds which they decimate...
As for dogs, I like other peoples dogs, but couldn't be arsed to have one as a pet..

One of my uncles who is an absolute twat, (you know who you are you ****), had a staffie.
The dog was a **** too. Would attack any other dog without any provocation.
Wouldn't care, the little twat only had one nut.

Any dog can be a complete twat. Its just staffies look the part. Dachunds are amongst the most aggressive dogs and look how cute they are!

I like French bulldogs too, they're just a bit squat and waddly for me, I like a dog that can jump for a frisbee.

Staffys in no way deserve the bad press, I've got one and she wouldn't hurt a fly no matter how much I wind her up.

Although having said that, she did eat a fly earlier...

Schitzu mate, every woman should be seen with one or a lazarapsui (spelling) a bit bigger with more of a snout but if your lass is big then they compliment each other well..<ok>

Hairless like a xoloitzcuintli or Chinese crested? Require sun lotion them mind. Prey instinct is quite high too. Can take down quarry the size of wildebeest so will need early socialisation and training.
