If you don't like someone or a certain person's posts, YOU CAN BLOCK THEM.

If you block them, all of their posts won't be viewable, although you have the choice to click on that individual post to instantly make it viewable (this does not make his/her other posts viewable, only that one). They basically won't exist to you anymore but the rest of the site will be fully usable.

I'll make it clearer: if the person you don't like makes a thread with breaking news and you want to read it, you can click an option on that individual post to make what they've written viewable without having to unblock them.

Stop bitching about certain posters day after day without taking this simple action!!!

Isnt that the point of forums, to discuss and debate each others points?

As well as having some fun and banter of course.

In all seriousness - that doesn't work.

Theoretical situation: poster 1 makes a comment on a thread. Poster 2 responds aggressively. Poster 1 blocks them.

Poster 1 then posts on three other threads, and after each one, there's a post by poster B. These are replied to by other posters, immediately becoming visible, and making the action of blocking them meaningless.

In addition, when poster B constantly hounds poster A, responding aggressively / sarcastically / insultingly to all of their posts, it's clear what's going on when poster A can see the responses but not the actual text (as that's all blocking does).

Blocking doesn't make any material difference to that kind of behaviour, which to be honest shouldn't have to be tolerated. So Poster A either leaves or responds in kind, both of which are harmful to the board in general.

Good idea in principle, but doesn't work in practice. It would be better if blocking someone means you can't even see that they have posted - I don't know if that's something that can be changed in the board settings, because it would help resolve a lot of these issues.

Ah, but if Poster A writes a comment C on thread T, and Poster B reacts negatively using language L, there's a risk that N number of other posters will digest C and L and, introducing a variable V, respond with anything ranging from NC1V to NL1V. If there's then a series of tit-for-tat comments T, there's a danger of NCxV x NLyV x T, where x and y are variants of C and L taken over time M. Chaos, I tell you.

Well I can make most people ignore me and most likely kill this thread too without having to change any settings.

    Just read my next post....

Gutted, I misread the OP, the only reason why I came here was I thought it was "impotent advice for people who use this forum"...

I agree, it has it's faults. But I think it still does a decent job in that you will suddenly know that the poster you don't like is around.

If no one has replied with a quote, then you won't see anything from him. If someone does reply to him with a quote at least you know that he's about and you can make sure you don't read further or you tread carefully.

Cant see the point in blocking someone....It limits the amount of input and threads you can post on..

Each to thier own i suppose, if people really are that sensitive ?

That's why I've made this thread. Some people like how diverse it is but some people are becoming irate on a regular basis and so I think if they can't hack it then just block the person who bothers you so much. Either put up or shut up kinda thing.
