    A Malaysian airliner with 295 people on board has crashed in Ukraine near the border with Russia, on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, reports say.

    Malaysia Airlines said it had lost contact with Flight MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukraine, it said in a tweet.

    Awful news for all the poor relatives. Spooky now with second jet going down from same airline.

    Hate to think what's happened to the share price (not being callous, just reality sadly).

    probably shot down by russians and/or rebels - just an unhappy coincidence that it was from Malaysian Airlines

    Absolutely disgusting. How you can 'mistake' a commercial plane following it's intended flight path is ridiculous, does make you wander if a similar thing happened to the other plane and was covered up.

    TF must be glad his deal to buy into the airline collapsed

    Very, very worrying development.

    The yanks won't be happy with the Rooskeys.

    Not a good time at the moment for peace in the world with conflict in Ukraine/Russia, Syria/Iraq and Israel/Gaza. Each dispute is a great reason to increase the price of oil.

    Flying at 30000 ft would require some very advanced ground to air missile to down it
    Surprising that passenger planes choose to fly over a war zone; surely a safer flight path must be chosen from here on in. Terrible tragedy for those on board and their families.

    It is worrying that such acts of violence and aggression are still being perpetrated on mainland Europe in the year we commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War. We have learned little.

    The Russians are saying the the Ukraine was targeting Putin's plane

    The CIA is heavily involved there so it could be them too.
    There's so many possibilities that I haven't a clue who it was but everyone is lying.

    Airlines, flying over war zones to save money.

    The obvious reaction to this tragedy must be for all commercial aircraft to be rerouted so that they avoid Ukranian air space.

    Putin must be furious. Probably almost as mad as Obama must be for American missiles being used to kill children playing on a beach.

    Again thoughts go out to victims loved ones.
