New today that Ashley has turned down taking his £200million bonus and will not accept any until 2019, however, his staff will share the pool. With our signings coming along I just wonder if he is slowly coming round to start and get our club moving again after all the aggro he's caused. Views please.

Ashley has always rewarded success so passing it on to his employees is perhaps not new. If you are somewhere up the food chain in Sports Direct, and not one of the slaves working zero hour contracts, you must have done pretty well in terms of shares and bonuses over the years. I'm not sure any of it reaches the floor staff and certainly not the sweat shop workers in the far-east though.

As for NUFC, he would need to repeat this kind of transfer window on a consistent basis for any of us to truely believe he's committed to getting us to the top end of the league and beyond. I mean, we had at least £60m in the bank to spend going in to this summer transfer window. There's additional money come/coming in and we have not spent particularly big money on anyone (maybe Cabella depending on whose valuation you believe). I don't think anything has changed in terms of who we sign, their, age, value, ability, etc. but what I do hope is that he/they have learned that they should no longer leave the manager's squad deficient in any areas. In the past we have always seemed to go into seasons, or 2nd halves of seasons, with gaping holes in the squad and suffered for it. It's almost like Ashley is fearful of us doing too well.

Maybe his goal is to keep the club self sufficient. With the new tv money and the club already turning a profit, that could be very exciting. I guess well see when we go after our "main striker" even though i think Riviere is it.

A leopard cannot change his spots.

Mike Ashley is simply making sure that Newcastle United are equipped to be competitive in the Barclays Premier League. That's it.

No Cup ambition or even European qualification, but a true reflection of the statement that came from the board.

If you look at the numbers who have left, we needed these new signings simply to stand-still, numbers-wise.

Nope. We're signing these players because he knows we need signings in order to stay up, and even if we spend 30m in total, that's pennies compared to the amount of cash we've receive from selling of players and TV money.

We should be signing players like this EVERY summer, and trying to compete for a top 6/7 place. If Everton is up there with their budgets and players, we should be too, and with more consistent additions we could do just that.

Our goal will be the same, survival, perhaps top 10, and anything else is just a bonus. We had a **** final half of the season but we finished 10th, but Ashley knows that we wont be able to do it again without new players.

We've signed these players on 6 year contracts mainly because we're mainly buying them so we can sell them later on, not so we can achieve long term success with these players.

I don't think only in terms of numbers, as though our quality has one up in some ways (Riviere will be better than Shola, Perez is better than no one, Cabella will be more use than HBA), wehave gone down in other ways (De Jong is not as good as Cabaye if he is his replacement, Janmaat is not as good as Debuchy). If we sign two or three more of quality then maybe that is a different scenario. At present I think we are back where we were last year. We have got enough to hit mid table. We are just a few January sales away from a slump though.

Ashley will never ever change. Why would he? He gets richer with every passing day. The not taking the bonus is a tactical move for greater brand standing within the industry. Maybe the its an ego thing too, he only wanted to prove he could get the bonus if he wanted. Who knows how his mind works!

Think it's more a case of JFK being out of the club and Charnely being in charge.
Didn't JFK's arrival coincide with our **** attempts to get transfers over the line?

Smacks of a plan Ashley would of came up with last summer to make himself shine in a positive light this one.

No doubt about it that ashley had decimated the squad to a point that relegation was a near on certainty if he didn't bring in the players he has this window.

Let's just wait and see if it takes him another 18months to invest after this window.
