£5 mill potentially down the crapper with him turning down his contract.....

Seriously, if he goes to Southampton or Leicester, bar money why? Southampton are clearly not going to be as good. Looks to me like Sunderland could have a great season.

Don't throw your career down the toilet. Enjoy your £17,500 bottle of champaign, have a fun summer and do what you CAN do with your career. Prove Di Canio wrong.

Aim for Euro 2016, you clearly can go if you actually have any interest in football.............!

Southampton could actually be a decent move for him... clearly not for us, but I wouldn't write them off just yet.

As for him turning down this contract, not sure what to make of it, it might be that he doesn't enjoy it up north and would like to move somewhere closer to his family etc. but it does come across as a footballer in the hunt for a better deal. Maybe a new club could actually be the making of him.

it does seem very strange to me. He went there and didnt get much of a chance in the first team so if that was still the case then I could see why a move would be good for him but he featured fairly regularly in the second half of the season. Hes young/ inexperienced enough to still be classed as potential rather than proven and is currently playing at a decent level so I hope he hasnt put 3 decent months down as a decent reason to get a extreme pay deal elsewhere.
As King has quite rightly pointed out he could be after a move for various reasons other than pay. Location, clash of personality or some other genuine reason may well come into play but for his sake I hope it is for the right reasons. Making the move for the wrong reasons and ending up with extra pounds in the pockets but no minutes on the pitch has seen many players quickly forgotten about.

Spot on jonny, he spent most of last season on loan at Sheff Wed, and although he did well for Sunderland when he returned, his time there has hardly been a resounding success. Im sure he will turn out to be a top flight footballer and i wish him every success but at the moment he seems to think hes better than he actually is.

That's the issue. We DO get a %%%% of a sell on, however, it's on PROFIT of £8 million. He won't be going for this amount, so we therefore won't receive 1p more for him. Irritating to say the least.

Thats right Westy, it only goes to show how over valued he was when he left us, should we feel bitter at the prospect of no sell on money? Not a bit of it, we pulled Sunderlands arms off in the first place.

Yeah we pulled their arms of field marshall but the squad never really saw any of that money so whether we get any add ons or not probably wont make much difference from mm downwards . We were promised the cresswell and green king money last week but it looks like they are rescinding on that already . But we shall see

Well we did reinvest the money back in, however it wasn't all transfer fees. The Wickham money went for some transfer fees, some loan fees, wages etc etc. Paying loan on the interest, loads of things people don't seem to realise!

Just because we sell Wickham for £8 million doesn't mean we can suddenly splash £8 mill. Where would the wages everything else come from!? Also, most transfer payments are staggered between 1 - 2 years so we wouldn't have even got that dosh upfront!

Also, I don't think for one second we pulled the wool over Sunderland's eyes. £8 mill upfront for how much potential he had at the time I wasn't hugely impressed with. I mean Leeds have just sold McCormack for £11 mill!
