http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-rio-ferdinand-set-to-have-a-medical-with-qpr Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will have a medical with Queens Park Rangers on Thursday, according to Sky sources. The 35-year-old held talks with Rangers boss Harry Redknapp earlier this week following his return from Brazil, where he had been working as a television pundit on the World Cup. Ferdinand, who won six league titles, two League Cups, one Champions League and a Club World Cup with United, has been looking for a club since the end of last season. Redknapp is keen to add more experience to his squad as Rangers return to Premier League action following their playoff victory against Derby in May. Striker Bobby Zamora, who scored the only goal in that Wembley encounter, signed a one-year contract extension at Loftus Road earlier this week.
Really hope this works out, otherwise the "we haven't learnt our lessons" gang will have a field day on this one. I must say, he did impress me with his BBC commentary during the WC.
I am happy if he signs. Still has a lot to offer and will help us attract others as he is highly respected.
Really can't get excited about this....how much more PL experience do we need? Maybe in time it will prove a worthwhile bit of business......
The difference with Rio is he can play the ball out from the back, rather than give us palpitations like Dunne...
I would say as much as we can get! I have a feeling we are going to be pleasantly surprised by Rio. Our smaller pitch will help too!!
Its not smaller. Its about average and only 1-2 yards shorter in each half than the biggest ones. We already have 2 35 year olds. We need pace far more than experience. Let's say Onuoha gets injured and we have vlaar, Rio,hill and Dunne to chose from. Not a good prospect.
Not enthusiastic about this signing at all. Nonetheless, once he's signs and puts on an R's shirt, he will get my full support. I really hope he does a Nelsen and proves all the doubters, me included, totally wrong.
With out trying to sound negative. Will he pass a medical. My understanding he didn't play much last season due to injury.
Then Danny, Yun, Traore, Joey & Ale will have greater responsibility tracking back with runners from midfield. Everyone said the Dutch and German centre-backs were too slow - they managed.
