According to reports this morning, Remy is demanding an £80,000-per-week basic pay package from The Gunners, and with Arsenal unwilling to surrender to the QPR man, the deal is on the verge of collapsing. A release clause in Remy's contract allows the striker to sign for a Champions League side for as little as £8.5m, and after netting 14 Premier League goals in 26 appearances whilst on loan at Newcastle United last season, the French international was considered something of a bargain by Arsene Wenger who appeared to be nailed on to swoop for his French compatriot. Although QPR have been active in the transfer market in preparations to replace the seemingly Arsenal bound striker, reports suggesting a break down in talks will no doubt come as music to the ears of Harry Redknapp. The 67-year-old R's boss is keen to keep a hold of the 26-year-old, and should Remy's high wage demands render him an unrealistic option for any potential buyer, he may find himself lining up in the blue and white hoops next season. Remy's potential future away from Loftus Road could all hinge on the player's character, or alternatively, a club's sheer determination to tie up a deal. The French international was one of QPR's high profile signings two seasons ago signing for a club record fee, and is subsequently earning a whopping £3.9m yearly salary. If Remy is unwilling to take a pay cut in order to push through a move to Arsenal, then the absence of an offer from elsewhere could mean the striker is destined to stay exactly where he is. Now is the time for West London Club to act and fight to keep their front-man. With a high profile player like Rio Ferdinand expected to complete a move to Loftus Road in the coming days, it's not conceivable that Redknapp might be able to convince Remy that his future lies at the spearhead of the QPR attack as they return to England's top flight. We can only wish ................... Maybe Tonz can get him a couple of rides a the F1 or maybe a years' free flights to anywhere in Asia for him and his family. The play station did it last time, we can only hope Tonz can work his magic and offer him something more than $$$$$$$$$$$$. We need to find leverage, to make it happen.
He is only at QPR for the money. I would prefer to have players who wear the jersey with pride. Hopefully we can get a good deal for him.
There are players who play for money, such as some of the sort we had 2 years ago. Then there are players who may well join a club because they offer the most money, but you'll still get their best performances and will play and love the club, I think Remy falls in to the later category. I hope he does stay, cause it will be very hard to find a striker who will get as many goals as Remy can and Austin is untested at this level.
Yes, I'm thinking the same but I'm prepared to cut him some slack only because I think he can benefit us better, in the team. We all know he's money driven but the PL is points driven and we need more than Austin up front.
Agree, I dont think there is anything wrong with players whose primary objective is money; as long as that is matched by commitment on the pitch.
We need him to lead the line. It's as simple as that. Pinning our hopes on Austin to score the goals to keep us up is ludicrous. As much as I admire Austin and love his work rate, Remy is in another league and we know he's going to put the ball in the net at this level.
Yep would like to see him stay......him and Austin could be a right hand full for most PL defences especially those who will be in the survival part of the league........
