It's not that simple though, there'd be a benefit-in-kind on the loan, which the club would have to pay NIC on, and Ellis himself would have to pay tax and NIC in addition... It would almost certainly be a lot less than paying bank rates, but it's not as straightforward as it seems. Especially if, as people are saying Ellis has had enough, would he really want to save the club money if it meant footing the bill personally through tax and NIC?
We have been in the red season in season out for years...I'm afraid Ellis is not a fairy godmother, so we will have to stick to a budget..
1 billion to us sounds like crazy money, let's say Short us worth 1.3 billion which the last I seen he was. If he puts 130 million into the club, that is 10% of his personal fortune, 1300 million, remember we all use the american billion these days. £130 million is nothing these days, it might get us 5th to 7th if we had a bit of luck along the way, but who would spend 10% to get us there (when you are talking a billionaire). Its sad when you can say a billionaire can't afford to run a successful (not fighting relegation every year) premier league club, but i don't think Ellis can especially with the players we need and the academy looking like its been a disaster.
Does he have that kind of money floating around are is all of his cash tied up in investments? You're right about 130 million. He could spend that and then have to fork out 50 million a season to prop up the wages and he ain't no oil sheikh. I'll be happy if he sorts out the **** players on high wages and sets in place a more financially sound structure for the club. Gus is just back from Brazil so players will start coming in.
It's his worth not bank balance so it includes all investments and all assets including the club. So technically he could have nowt in the bank and still be worth over a billion. I agree fella, I don't mind running to a budget if we can get infrastructure working correctly. But having 7 or 8 players in a squad who aren't wanted is not spending wisely imo. It's tightened the budget too much, Boarding on tying his hands. I think we're not signing players because we've got to move others on first.
Indeed. We arn't big enough to go spunking wages like QPR did and we can't make the mistakes of the past. We don't need to spend foolishly now to attract players to Sunderland like we did when we paid stupid amounts for Ferdinand. Players are out there to be had and no doubt Congerton and Poyet have many irons in the fire that they arn't exposing. I hope that we exploit the German teams and that Gus has found a couple of South American gems... only time will tell. Keep The Faith.
Some people seem to have moved up a notch, in the panic stakes, since Newcastle signed a few players. (Never mind that they're pretty much Cabaye, Remy, Debuchy replacements or whatever.) What's missed is that they had 5/6 months start on us in commencing negotiations. Sunderland didn't know what division they'd be in so couldn't even speak to Borini, Vergini, Wickham, Colback etc. Yes, we're off to a slow start but I really don't want to repeat the mistakes of the past over and over every season. We're a side that just avoided relegation by a miracle, you can't expect top players to be banging on Poyet's door. Sorry but that's the stark truth.
I don't think Poyet is directly involved in the negotiations ..... I doubt any Sunderland manager will ever be allowed near that process again. If he doesn't know who he wants by now we're ****ed.
Short doesn't spend any of his money on signings, the money comes from the club. My biggest worry is that he follows the path of randy learner.
