I was having a debate with my lad, and we both have the urge to call Manuel Neuer the best footballer in the world. It's a hard concept to grasp, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it is true, just because he doesn't run up the pitch and score cracking goals, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be considered the best. He is by far the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. I would chew my arm off to have him sign for Liverpool. Everytime I see him, I cry that we are stuck with Mignolet, who is by far the worst keeper Liverpool have ever had.

Real will be De Gea in due time and Barca just bought Ter Stegen.

I wouldn't say Mingolet is the worst keeper we've ever had.

I would go as far as to say Neur is the best goal keeper ever in world football. Incredible talent. #keepersweeper

  6. I think we've been spoilt with Pepe and people expect others to be to the same standard. Migs never stood a chance with that view.

    1. I've always said so on neuer but I fancy a little longer period of performance is required for greatest ever status... It'd be nice to think it might be possible for him to win world poty though

2 worst keeper ? How dare you sir. I am the one who's said it first on mingolet too, but.... C'mon FFs Friedal was awful for us and went on to play well elsewhere, James earned the nickname calamity and chris Kirkland could break a bone yawning. What about Scott Carson or mike hooper or fn brad jones

Mingolet is a useless kicker if the ball, passing ability is limited, he is glued to his line and aerially weak, but for that he is still is brilliant shot stopper

Perfect challenge for me that <ok> Take the ball first (business) then smash the man with your knee (pleasure)....oh to have a keeper that decisive, strong, intelligent, confident, good with his feet, good in the air....instead we bought Minger.

High challenge. A very high challenge.

If a boot above waist height when standing is a foul, Neuer's flying tackle was a disgrace.

    Red card. Argentina were cheated.

<laugh> Did you see Schweinsteiger by the end? Looked like he'd just done 6 rounds with Tyson (except he still had his ears).

In fairness any keeper worth his salt knows as long as he connects with the ball the ref will never give anything....he raised his knee but didn't put his studs up so it's the perfect challenge. He's playing in a world cup final....**** being nice. Get the ball and if possible take out your man as hard as you can. Part of Engerlands problem this year was they looked more like they wanted to give everyone flowers instead of sticking them in row z.

but the ref did give some thing. A German freekick.

Sweignsteiger was beaten around. But if the ref had done the right thing with Neuer extra time may never have happened.

Yes Neuer is the best keeper in the world and yes he should have been sent off last night.

Does someone actually need to be paralysed or killed before FIFA accept that knees to the spine and head are no more part of the game than biting?

    Have to agree with you.

Manny knew what he was doing and that was worse than head to head collision.

Quality of referring was very poor - entire tournament.

Best keeper in the world, obviously, but calling him one of the greatest ever is far too premature. The saves he's made this world cup in particular weren't the most difficult, he's not the most agile keeper either, but he has such an aura about him when he's playing which I think earns his reputation. Defenders have total confidence in him to come and claim every ball in the air and he's solid with shot stopping. Defenders typically play better when they trust the keeper though and nothing inspires more confidence than commanding every airborne ball in the box. His distribution is very good too, nearly always picks out a player like Pepe used to for us and start attacks.

Would love him here, but I still think Migs will perform much better next season and will start to take control more. I also think we have bigger issues in the team than Mignolet.

I do feel real sympathy for Argentina over that decision. It was potentially the difference between victory and defeat for them.

Neuer is a great keeper and sweeper though.

Keepers really shone at this world cup. Howard, Bravo, Ochoa, Julio Cesar. All showed great heroics.

No-one wants to make big calls that impact the game- such as sending people off or awarding penalties. No-one wants to be "THAT REF".
