Sky Bet suspended betting on two potential transfers late last night. Steven Caulker was 6/5 to join Crystal Palace before the book was closed, while trading on Enner Valencia's future also ceased with the Ecuadorian heavily backed at 1/3 to join West Ham. See all Sky Bet's transfer odds here. Just seen this on Sky....Time to go back with better bid for the Forest kid
The bottom line here is Palace wanted him more, they've broke the bank to get him because he is the player Pulis sees as fitting well in the system he plays. The fact they've paid over the top is irrelevant. A couple of years ago there was an interview with Sir Alex asking why Man Utd had gone on so successfully over the years and why Arsenal had become also-rans. His answer told you all you need to know about why that happened. He said sometimes, if you know the player you are after is perfect for the system you play, you have to pay over the top, more than they are realistically worth because they are the right player rather than buy someone at the right price who may not be. He quoted RVP as the perfect example, £24 million for a player with one year left on his contract was probably £9 million more than his real value, but he was the right player and United went on to win the title. He said too many times Wenger wouldn't pay more than he thought a player was worth and missed out on the right players and often ended up with either the wrong player or none at all, that was the difference...
Ferdinand onuhua give it a go. Hill and Dunne for back up. Some may have forgotten that Delaney and Gabidon played in the premiership relatively successfully.
You don't see a problem with 3 of the back 4 being 35-36? They will get ground down and we will be stuffed. They're probably good for one season between the three of them.
I think that the signing of Rio Ferdinand might bring a couple more elements into play - reassurance and ambition. Granted he's the wrong side of 30, but it might be enough to cite his signing during other player negotiations to tip the balance.
Just read an article claiming QPR would not beat the 42k been offered by palace.LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE FINALLY LEARNED. about time.lets move on now to next transfer target.
Good I don't rate him ... all about promise and theory he hasn't got it IMO I would buy from France every time: Sébastien Corchia Simon Kjær Djibril Sidibé Julian Jeanvier Adama Soumaoro Pogba looks on his way to Chelsea and he will become the best player in the premiership very quickly
Even a lesser player would be better than someone who just takes the highest pay packet on offer. Look where that got us last time. The fact that he was instructing his agent to wait for Liverpool, try and get more off Cardiff etc should be a warning sign has not the right sort.
Ok why has nothing been settled today with his transfer? No sky sources either? It's the mirror enough said.
Paradoxically to my post above, Paul Pogba was one player Fergie wouldn't pay the 50k a week he was after when United had him on their books as a teenager, how they could do with his midfield presence now...
This tweet made me laugh @TFS_QPR: BREAKING: Steven Caulker has turned down a move to #CPFC because they're ****ing ****. More to follow. #CPFC #QPR http://t.co/Y1x1zOHcbk
These guys don't often support who they play for. They have a short earning life, perhaps 10 years at the top. You cannot blame any of the players for trying to maximise their income and get the best deal available. I have no problem with that at all. I do have a problem however, when after screwing the best deal out of a club, they then fail to perform on the pitch. Granero, Cisse, Caesar all examples of such individuals IMO.
