Luis Suarez: Liverpool & Barcelona agree deal for striker

Liverpool have reached a deal with Barcelona to sell Luis Suarez to the Spanish club.

The fee is understood to be around £75m.

Suarez signed for Liverpool from Ajax in 2011 for £22.7m, and had four years remaining on his current contract. He won the PFA Player of the Year award last season, scoring 31 league goals.

The Uruguay international is serving a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

The money from the sale will go into the owners pockets, says Henry.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers today issued the below statement following the announcement that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for Luis Suarez to leave the club.

"Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

"I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

"The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

"We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season's excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

"I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

"If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve."

Luis Suarez today issued the following statement to the club's official website, Liverpoolfc.com.

"It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

"But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

"I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

"I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I'm sure will be successful again next season.

"I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

"Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Forced to lie by his reps. Not single word is believable ...<ok>

The lying cheating diving miserable biting ugly racist can get lost. To think that the RS supported him in the racist incident when we all knew at the time he was lying shows how misguided these RS club players and fans were. I hope they have the humility now to apologise to Evra for believing a lying sewer rat...When someone as deluded an RS fan as Donga turns against him, then there is nowhere for him to go <ok>

I posted this on 26th June. Seems I wasn't too far of the mark

Just an opinion, but maybe Suarez planned the bite in order to profit from the outcome. and before you say that's crazy, consider the following.

    1. By making the 3rd offence of biting, in full view of the worlds cameras, he achieves world publicity, which forces FIFA to ban him. In reality, that ban is only going to include world cup matches, which he knows Uruguay are very unlikely to win it.

    2. His 2 goals proved he is a top class player, so clubs with no principals would be more than willing to have him as a player

    3. Despite Liverpool defending him over the last biting ban, they also made it clear to him that any future actions that bring Liverpool into disrepute would not be tolerated.

    4. He is fully aware that Barca and Real Madrid are both interested in signing him, but the price Liverpool require is excessive, but the publicity from the bite episode will devalue that figure. So with a reduced figure, either of the Spanish sides would have no problem in signing him, despite his reputation.

    5. His father has already stated his desire to play in Spain, and all the publicity about the biting gives clever little Luis another excuse to blame the media in wanting to move away from the premier league.

    6. Liverpool are in a dilemma. If they keep him, they run the risk of being hounded by the English press, but if the sell him, the fans won't forgive them

So there we go, maybe the obnoxious little rat planned the bite anyway. After all, he has plenty to gain from it.

Lol at liverpool making the fee up via the bbc.

Barcelona say its closer to 60million quid. Thats about 75million euros so i suspect its about that.

As i have said all along.

Also liverpool fans paying tribute, calling him their best ever player and **** <laugh> <laugh>....

To put it into perspective... Berbatov achieved about tge same. He finished top scorer once...... <laugh>
