Or more specifically SLRs. Any budding photographers on here? I want SLR but don't know the first thing about thrm. Also theyre quite expensive compared to normal cameras and don't want to spend a lot.
I had nikon's for years but was sick of dragging them around. I now have an older olympus pen which is great. You can hold it in your hand, change lenses and it's nearly pocket size. Go for a smaller camera... you can get an epl1 for about 70quid or less of ebay. Buy one and play with it before subjecting your wallet to something bigger. http://www.olympuspen.com/ or the smaller nikon d3300.
I've always had Nikon but last year bought a samsung galaxy camera and it's a fantastic camera, I love it and use it more than my Nikon.
I have a Nikon D3200 DSLR, it's basically the go-to for newcomers to the world of SLR's. Brilliant, simple to use, great results. After buying this, I'll probably not bother upgrading as I'm not that passionate about them, but this will last me 10 years no problem, which is more than I can say for the drawer full of broken samsungs and sony's (point and shoot) I've got.
Point and shoots have done me fine. Just want an upgrade. The point and shoots have their limits. When I saw the Northern Light a few years ago in Finland could I **** take a photie with my Panasonic, as good as a camera it has been to me.
Try looking at Bridge cameras eg Panasonic fz100, fz70 been using these for a couple of years now since ditching my (very heavy!) bag full of canon slr gear. Obviously not as versatile as a full spec slr but certainly comparable to the cheaper ones and you don`t need to buy any more lenses!
Been out of production for years - also it`s a film camera, not digital so would be very expensive to run.
I use Canon but Nikon are equally as good. I bought my wife this one to get her involved in photography, it's an exceptional bridge camera with a massive zoom (one of the reviews said that if you wanted to buy the same zoom for an SLR you would need a mortgage to buy it and a lorry to carry it). http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/reviews/compacts/129379/1/canon-powershot-sx50-hs-review We have just used it on our holidays and you can see how the papers get incriminating shots of the celebs.
I will go with this 100%. I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years and the entry level Nikons are very good for a beginner into DSLR's. I have some top kit but TBH tend to use my Fuji X100s mostly..
Literally just bought a Canon 1200d from amazon yesterday. Not a photographer at all, but going on a trip in a few months, and had been informed it's a good entry level DSLR. I'll let you know if I can get on with it as I've never owned anything more complicated than a £100 point and click before. It also comes with a free app on apple ios, telling you how to use it, what it does, etc., which I started reading last night. Great if you are a newbie like me.
Thing is with cameras is not to spend too much on your first one. Buy second hand and see how you go. Also, Get a second hand camera that you can then use the lenses on a better body in the future. The D3200 is fine but 350quid... you could pick up a cheap d60 or d90 to try first.
Don't know if the ^^^ were for my benefit but a clever ****e not. Iv'e gone through 5 years of hell mate and it still continues. When people talk of Safc, photography (my profession that was and will be again hopefully), boxing (I did) or bare knuckle (I did), then I throw my penneth worth in.. If Iv'e read your post wrong then apologies..
Catalogues, Littlewoods, Grattan, everything from studio white furniture to clothes and fashion. Opened the 1st 1 hour mini-lab in Darlington in 1986 and from then on worked alongside professional studios in Brighton, Edinburgh and Manchester. Shoot weddings for friends only but my forte is portraiture. Given my partners severe health problems and my needed time with her, I still do well to even pick the cameras up. Got 2 friends weddings coming up in the next month so smiling about that.. ps, for my 35mm digital I use Sony A99's, they make the sensors for Nikon anyway but for me the brilliant Zeiss AF lenses that support the cameras is my reason..
I was replying to commachio's post about the om10 and my response - don'know how I managed to offend you, but apologies anyway!
