Why have playoffs in the championshp (apart from the money making sxheme)?

Agree on 3rd/4th, but Championship play offs are awesome as teams as low as 12th/13th still have something to play for in last few weeks of season

Which is why winners of the fa cup and league cup should quallify for the champions league and Europa should be for league runners up...Or just binned.

Imagine if Costa Rica got through on penalties and lost to Argentina. Doubt they'd see it as pointless. It's a bit of a funny one.

If Costa Rica got through to the Semi and went out they'd take a **** load of joy in playing for third.

The bigger teams don't give a ****. They only take glory in being the best. The "lesser" teams take a **** load of glory wherever they can.

    Get me?

Kind of, but it's still a pointless game.

I don't see it that way personally. When I used to play as a kid, I'd want to win every single game regardless of what I was playing for. I don't see friendlies as pointless.

It's footie isn't it. No footie is pointless.

The only good thing now about the 3rd place game is Brazil will be looking to restore their pride, so it ahould make for an open entertaining game.

A man accused of killing a soccer referee with a punch to his head has been charged with second-degree murder.

Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad was charged eight days after 44-year-old John Bieniewicz died from his injuries.

Witnesses said Saad "sucker punched" the referee as he prepared to show him a red card during an adult-league match in Livonia, Michigan, outside Detroit.

The winners get a bronze world cup medal, or at least its called the bronze medal match so I'm presuming they get a medal to keep forever.

The players would probably just prefer to he on a beach somewhere but I think for Brazil especially it could be a humbling experience for them and a chance to get the monkey off their back early if they win it, could be disaster if they lose by a big margin though.

    I still say,

    League winners = Champions League
    Next 2 = UEFA Cup
Both cup winners (or runners up if winners gave got in one of the other 2) = cup winners cup

But there is that much cash in the CL these days its only going to get bigger not revert back to what it was previously.

I disagree Comm, the scousers will be revelling in their 2nd placed finish for the next 40 years.

Newcastle fans also appear to think they could put their 2nd places from the 90's in the trophy cabinet.

I'm quite surprised that FIFA haven't started to have play off's for all placings at the World Cup.

Both of them were so close, and blew it.<laugh>

Scousers held a candlelite vigil, whilst the mags just smash their city up.

The scousers tried to win a game that they just had to not lose, to keep daylight between themselves and City. Then they had to beat Palace and Newcastle and it was in the bag, straight forward as it goes. Slip, flop, ****ed it, we go again, bottle job, Rogers tiki-taka-dogshit, Mourinho masterclass, creased up Manchester. The rest is history, their favourite subject.

I have no beef with the 3rd/4th play off personally, it means an extra game of footy to watch, and it's often a far more entertaining and open game than the final (see four years ago, think it was Germany 3 Uruguay 2 or something similar?)
