Given the amount of time and effort that goes into all aspects of football these days I find it highly doubtful that players give themselves a disadvantage by using inferior equipment simply because its free. If leather is better and more expensive than the synthetic materials why are all the low end boots leather and the high end boots synthetic?
The best boots are all made from synthetic materials as leather just doesn't shape the same way. I'm not sure but I doubt if any pro wears leather boots anymore, they have the most expensive, which tend to be synthetic, and they're synthetic for a reason, because they can shape to give maximum effect when attacking the ball, whether you want swerve, dip, or just plain accuracy they come in different moulds to aid your ball movement however you want.
Lionel Messi has all his boots specially made from a specific leather. All the Messi copy boots for sale in sports shops are synthetic or man made. Just saying.
