TBH I wouldn't mind him, as a back-up CM. We need plenty of cover in that area as Tiote gets booked a lot and Marveaux has suspect fitness.

To the tune of 'that's amore':

When the ball hits your head when you're sat in row z, Darren Gibson.
When the ball can't be found coz it's out of the ground, Darren Gibson....

Which begs the question, why is he rated ahead of Gibson?

He's terrible. Man Utd fans even abuse him on twitter, he's practically a fly half....Long passes go out for a throw, shots go way over the bar. Just another player who's been vastly over rated due to him scoring one or two screamers a season. Relegation quality

Maybe if we sold Guthrie, but there's better and cheaper options out there.

Yes, but it's not negative. I'd probably have higher but I went through a huge stage of not even coming on the site (do Tash's madness). I've only started using a lot the last month or so.

    BTW who annoys you? <laugh>

although this is a poor quality youtube link, i think it's important that people are reminded by the quality he can bring to the toon.

for me, he's the type of player that is easy to forget, as in comparison to the best he has little flair, average pace and no outstanding footballing talents (except smashing a ball into the top corner on every second occasion).

but after watching my link i reckon he would prove to be lethal in the newcastle set up. would he beat cabaye to the starting 11, probably not, but he'd certainly provide some intense competition.

i disagree that the likes of gosling or guthrie could provide the same competition. guthrie has been here for a long time now and although i remember KK touting him as the new steven gerrard (think it was him), he's made little improvements. we need to raise the bar now. throughout a season i believe gibson would add some much needed quality in a vital area of the field.

5million may seem like a lot for him, but i reckon he'd be rarely injured and very consistent in providing 7/10 performances. a solid player, who without too much flair would hopefully stay under the radar during transfer windows. i think he's underrated, i think he'd stay here for a good 4-5 years and i think he'd provide us with a versatile CM.

5million is an reasonably good deal. i'd be happy to have him for that. but ship the dead wood out.

    PLUS HE'S ENGLISH <3

I rate him and £5m is about fair but we should only be signing him if we know we've got midfielders on the way out, otherwise we're going to be completely overcrowded.

If Guthrie goes to Brum, Smith to Leeds and Joey refuses to sign a new contract then I see Gibson as a fairly smart signing. He really needs first team football in order to prove himself and there's a chance he could be given that here though he'd probably be better off moving somewhere like Wigan where he can be star man.
