I knew Puskas had played for 2 countries... But... Platini !? I didn't know he had played for Kuwait ! Every day is a learning day on Not606 eh !! I've also learned that German birds are as fit (if not fitter) than Brazilians.. Who'd have thought!!
Thinking about it from a players point of view and which would they choose? A club whose academy regularly produces 1st team players or SAFC where history suggests their chances are practically zero. Maybe we only get second best as the best ones don`t want to come here and, until we have a decent record of promotion of academy players, they never will. Just a thought hoyed into the mix.
Terrible marra, alls they do is release all the younguns. Summit is sadly wrong at the academy. Whether it's Ball's or Macca's fault is anyones guess but I'd rather my kid be at Hartlepool or Boro.
That sums it up mate, a talented young lad in the region, we both have a 5-star academy, but Boro churn them out and sell them on. We release them and don't give a chance. Where is anyone gonna go? It's a mess.
I havnt researched this at all but could the 25 man squad limit be a problem. As in they get to an age where they have to promote to pro and give them a higher wage, let's say 10k for arguments sake, but as they will not get into the PL 25 man squad limit, then its pointless promoting them as its a waste of money as they are not as good as the 25 we have already got or plan to buy. This is another reason why B teams would be a good idea, you could have 50 professionals on the books, and not have to let so many leave, and we can't afford to keep them, pay their wages and loan them out like a Chelsea who I believe had 34 players out on loan last season.
Well they don't need to be registered up until the age of 21, Laing is 21 but we wouldn't have had to have registered him if he was going out on loan. Only if we wanted to play him in the prem which wouldn't have been likely because of his level. Laings wages would have been more than affordable for any championship club. You're spot on about the B teams, I'm all for it.
I forgot all about the under 21s but if you give a player a pro contract you would expect them to get a game or 5 during the season (in the 1st team). So maybe bring 8 through at once was just too much of a risk (if that is how many we got rid of)
Looking at the Prem league, Arsenal and Soton and ManU have the best records for bringing in homegrown youngsters, but surely it must be their scouting system that unearths them and introduces them to their academies.
Juninho says on the BBC site that Brazilian football needs overhauling from academy level up, so we are not alone.
Loads of teams do it without the player getting a sniff of the first team. We could do it if we recruited the right younguns and developed them properly. We've got the facilities, we should be utilising them to the max.
3 years ago today, Henderson moved to Liverpool, for a bloody good sum of money. The only outstanding talent that the academy has produced. And to thing some of the masterminds on here didn't rate him.
True. And he's now a Liverpool & England regular. Always knew Jordan had it in him. I remember one time when we played Man City. He struck a shot so hard, it hit Shay Given straight in the face & knocked the Irish **** right into the net, lol. It was so funny, I'm surprised he wasn't concussed.
