I see that Sky Betting has us in a possible 12th spot in their view of the odds on who will be relegated next season. I would be OK with that but our target, survival aside, should be to get a top 10 spot if possible.
Excellent = 8th - 10th place and a cup win/final Very good = 8th - 10th place Good = 11th - 14th place (bumped up to very good if we have a proper cup run/win) Adequate = 15th - 17th place (bumped up to good if we have a proper cup run/win) Failure = relegation I reckon we should be aiming for very good this season, given it is our 4th season, proven scorer up front (Bony), extra outlay on wages and no Europa commitments....but given everything that's gone on a realistic aim is for a good season. I'd be happy enough with adequate. Will be fuming if we are relegated (that would suggest mismanagement of the resources at our disposal)
I see nothing unexpected with those odds. I'd like to think we can finish above West Ham though. Expectation won't be as high as last season when lots were hoping for a top 10 finish. I'd be happy somewhere near the middle. Realistic expectation must be survival first, anything else a bonus.
The top seven places are spoken for by the usual suspects as usual, imo. If Bony and Bafi can get us the goals and the defence steps up a gear or two, I wouldn't discount us getting 8th place although perhaps 10th would be more realistic.
I think we could finish 7th but would be happy with 8th. Top 10 would be good, but bottom 10 not so good. FA Cup win would be good. Enough bad teams win it that we must be in with a chance if we play the first team and trey to win the matches.
Top 10 would be a fantastic season. 10-15 will be the target for monks first season and more realistic.
I don't think we can speculate on this sort of thing until we know our playing staff definitively. There could be lots of comings and goings yet. If we build on what we've got then yes, top half would be great. If we lose key players then we may well struggle to stay up. All up in the air I'm afraid.
What are forums for if not for speculating? That's the fun of them, exchanging opinions on what might be or not be. If all we dealt with were facts half the fun would disappear. There's a lot of mileage and entertainment in "what if". Eventually all this speculation comes out in the wash but, hopefully, we'd all have had a good time in the meanwhile.
first five games should be about 9-10 points i reckon. we have a tough opening match against united that i don't expect anything but the next 4 we should see our season start....
"10-15 will be the target for monks first season and more realistic". Well,Michael Laudrup exceeded that in HIS first season, unless my memory is playing me tricks.
Because it's meaningless, that's why - and very premature. Hate to sound like a grouch and I've nothing against speculation per se but when you're talking about where we're going to finish in May 2015 the inevitable guesswork that occurs in early July 2014 means zilch, nada, nothing - because correct me if I'm wrong but our final position will depend hugely on who we have on the pitch. There are probably only a handful of players that we know for certain will still be with us. No offence meant to other posters but I'll revisit this when we know with some certainty who we'll have on the playing staff for the new season, but in the meantime have fun guessing/ hoping/ praying.
If no one speculated and guessed then there'd be about five posts in total on these boards every week Of course it's meaningless but people enjoy it and it is going to happen, that's guaranteed!
