Ben Arfa and Marveaux told to train with the reserves at Newcastle

HATEM Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux have been frozen out at Newcastle United – and told to train with the reserves.

Alan Pardew’s players were put through their paces yesterday on the first full day of pre-season training.

But Ben Arfa and Marveaux – who the club are looking to sell this summer – didn’t train with their senior colleagues.

Instead, the Gazette understands pair worked with the club’s development squad.

Fans’ favourite Ben Arfa sat out the final few weeks of last season after suffering an injury and falling out of favour, and was disciplined for holding an impromptu Press call in which he told of his “frustration” at a lack of first-team starts.

The forward also claimed he wanted to stay at St James’s Park – and denied suggestions he had been a disruptive influence behind the scenes.

Ben Arfa, 27, has a year left on his United contract, and the Gazette reported in May that he was available for as little as £3m.

However, Newcastle have not, as yet, received a firm bid for the club’s most gifted player.

Ben Arfa – who could lose his No10 squad number to summer arrival Siem de Jong – remains hugely popular on Tyneside, where he has spent the last four years.

Marveaux, meanwhile, has two years left on the lucrative United deal he signed when he joined as a free agent in 2001[sic].

The 27-year-old midfielder, pictured, only made a handful of appearances last season, and he has been told he doesn’t feature in manager Alan Pardew’s plans.

Newcastle published a series of photographs of the first session on their official website yesterday.

But Ben Arfa and Marveaux were conspicuous by their absence.

It is unclear whether they will travel to New Zealand next week for the club’s pre-season tour of the country.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini – who revealed he was staying at the club in an interview with the Gazette in May – trained alongside de Jong and his fellow new signings Jack Colback and Ayoze Perez.

Midfielder Mehdi Abeid – who had a successful loan at Panathinaikos last season – is also back on Tyneside, as is Gabriel Obertan, whose future at United is also uncertain.

The session, which followed two days of fitness testing, was overseen by newly-appointed head of fitness Dave Billows.

Defender Remie Streete, from South Shields, was also involved.

Fit-again Ryan Taylor – who has been sidelined for almost two years – also took part in the session after recovering from a surgery to repair his cruciate ligament for the second time.

The 29-year-old thanked Newcastle’s fans on Twitter for their support during his long absence.

Taylor tweeted: “What a fantastic feeling it was this morning to be back out training with the team. Moments like that are worth so much to me an my family.

“Thankyou so much for all your support throughout my rehab, it’s been much easier with the support you guys have given me.”

Totally ****ing unprofessional from pardew if you aske me. Regardless of what happened last season they should be taken to one side told that the slate is wiped clean for the new season and to get their fingers out, play for the shirt and earn their places in the team.

Two players who can do serious to opposition which we were sorely lacking in the 2nd half of last season after Cabaye left.

Pardew needs to man the **** up, give his head a wobble and start doing what he is paid to do...manage ****ing playing staff.

Jesus, what about a clean slate? Start as you mean to go on I guess.

If this is true, God, he is such a **** manager, a charlatan of unbelievable proportions.

"Marveaux spent the summer working with personal trainer Marambaud Gilles in France to ensure he was at peak fitness levels ahead of pre-season training.

And the winger was understood to be in good spirits on the first day of preparations for the new campaign."

Good spirits or banished to train with the reserves... Can't really trust anything.

I don't really mind, I want both of them gone and replaced. I think the pair are a waste of good wages and its clear there have been serious problems with professionalism from both. Whether this is true is another story altogether. I know Raylor was back in training which is great for him and the squad. The likes of Campbell, Armstrong, Kemen, Aarons, Streete, Satko, Abeid, Bigi, Woodman and Perez were all in the mix with the seniors and I'm more interested in their progress than two players who have been far from committed to the cause previously. If they have gone away and got fit, shifted the weight and are serious about re-integrating then give them a chance but I'd be getting shot. At the very least they would have to earn the right to train with the first team otherwise you are sending the wrong message to the squad before a ball has been kicked.

The problem is finding buyers for players of this nature is difficult even at reduced prices. Regardless of talent, team don't want unprofessional players or disruptive influences. HBA has been that his entire career, teams would rather invest in a 18-21yr old who has yet to waste his talent.

I'd rather see HBA and Le Marv training with the first team than ****ing Obertwat.

Assuming the reports are true of course. Seen pics on facebook and they all looked to be training at the same time in the same place...and for the record HBA was looking in good shape.

Ridiculous from Pardew (if true), we're short on numbers as it is.

All it needed was a quick chat with them both on the first day of training, something along the lines of "when fit, dedicated and working hard you two add a lot to this squad, show me that you want to be here and i'll give you the same treatment as every other player".

If after a week it becomes clear that they aren't any of the above then that would have been the time to make them train with the kids. With our squad size at the moment, we really can't afford to be freezing players out without giving them a chance to prove their worth.

Now you're just being silly surely!

I'd like Obertan gone too. I don't see any value in any of these three or Jonas for that matter. Surely we could just offload and use the fees/wages to buy one or two quality wingers. Its a no brainer for me. All four have had more than a enough time and opportunity and have failed beyond doubt to deliver or gone over the hill in Jonas's case. I just don't get this fanboy approach with Marv and HBA at all. "Ooh its not fair, give them another chance" How many do they need? Our club has gone soft, we just suffer these ****s. At other clubs under proper managers who actually have a say they'd just discarded as the charlatans they are.

I don't really care about numbers either. They offer nothing and play little or no part. If it means a happier squad, then all the better. Realistically though, surely we could lose 4 and add 2? Surely that appeals to Mike. I fully accept that it is not that simple to et rid of players like the 4 mentioned, other clubs aren't so f**king stupid!

What a way to build a happy team, you don't belittle two senior players in front of their team mates and make them train with the reserves ffs. that's bad management.

And should anybody wonder when HBA is brought on with 20 mins left and we are 2-0 down and asked to save the game, why he might not put his heart and soul in to it.

Not saying HBA would be in the right but I could see why. It's just petty, shocking man management by Pardew if true.

i know HBA was disruptive , whats marve done ?if the reports are true he has hired a personal trainer to get himself sorted i think 1 week to see what he's like would of been the more adult approach.

To be fair, lads, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors. When I was MOD, for example, I tried to get this piece of **** banned from our board about 18,000 times, just to humiliate him, because he had disrespected me massively by daring to hold a different opinion. Unfortunately this little twat was made a MOD of our board before me XD

I'll get you DMW, if it's the last thing I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <laugh>

It says it's Remi Streete below the photo.

Good to see they are getting their shirt pulling practice in early doors this season.

Ah fair play. Missed that! Whoops. Strange given the chronicles story on Marvo being raring to go which was put up his morning. But maybe it is clever management from Pards- if you remember Perchinho had to train with the reserves before the 11/12 season, and went on to have a cracking season.

Never never! Once I finish top of Dream Team and win the prediction competition, you will have no choice but to accept me as the better man and get down on your knees for some brutal cock slapping of your menial face.
