I suppose what you've got to ask yourself is, "if another premier league side said they were signing Bobby Zamora for a season, would you think it's a good move?". We'll always have rose tinted glasses given what he did for us in those last 2 games. That's a fair point. Baby steps!
It all depends on who we bring in, if we get 2 top class forwards then it could be a good move, another forward might not want to come in to be on the bench. Say we got the iceman and lukaku, that would soften the blow of Zamora!
An overly sentimental decision based on the Wigan home game and Wembley goal. A mistake to fill one of the 25 places with a bloke has apart from those 2 games has been an injury prone and hardly prolific striker. He'll never make 6 games without his injury breaking down again. I understand why this has been done but its a mistake in my opinion
He had several good twenty minute cameos this season hinting he could be worth holding onto. I think they are trying to retain some of that team spirit we saw at the end of last season and also avoid the wholesale changes that failed so spectacularly last time. I am actually OK with this. No doubt he was after two years so at least we are not pushovers any more.
I think he'll be better, because he had that surgery. He truth is, we want 4 strikers and I'm not against him being one of the four unless we can genuinely find someone better as a fourth choice.
It will work extremely well having Bobby Z being an impact player. He get another year as a pay back for getting us up and we get a player who can come on when needed and get a goal for us. This whole situation is a win win for all concerned. Go the Bobby dazzler!
Just to hear his name sung again is worth it in my book ........there you go , it's started me off again !!! Oooooooh Bobby Zamoraaaaaa . Have to agree with C. CaptainJack on this one . Good point also awjm .
I would have thought sentimentality would be the last thing we could afford taking into account what happened last time we were in the PL
This is is sound decision imo. If he only had 1 leg I'd be happy for him to have an extra year, on reduced wages, after giving us THAT moment at Wembley. Also, a lot of people are saying that his injury will flare up again, but, as I understand it, he had an operation to cure it and he was like a different player towards the end of the season. Definitely an impact sub for next season. "Oh Bobby Zamora"!! Can't wait to sing it again.
As things stand, assuming Remy goes, he's not an impact sub, he will start games when Austin is injured, which will obviously happen. Zamora not physically able to do it. If we sign a decent standard CF as back up to Charlie, Zamora is shunted down the list further. I'd rather we took a punt on a young CF as 3rd choice, its a waste of a squad place. Unless we play 4-4-2, in which case we will be destroyed by December whoever the strike pair are.
This. Zamora was improving all last season. He must surely have been given a medical all-clear on his hip problems to get the new contract.
Hope you are right about this. I agree totally that we need to keep the core of the team that did so well at the end of last season. I'm happy we have or seem to be in the process of giving new contracts to BZ, Traore, O'Neill, and Ale who did it earlier. I'd love to see us keep and get the best out of Adel, Remy, Cesar and Granero which would reduce the need to bring in new really top top players further, but I expect the about 5 new players TF talked of, will be partly to replace most of these when they are sold.
He won't start when Austin is injured if we get another striker in, which I'm sure is the plan. They won't be expecting Zamora to play full games one after the other. We need to keep as much of last season's squad together as is sensible. We can't make the same mistakes over and over again by making too many changes all at once.
We will get 2 more forwards in, Zamora will be fourth choice to start and will only see the pitch when we are losing and going long in the last twenty mins.
Good reasoning. However, if Flyer is right and he returns to poorer form, can we off load him in January?
