I don't understand the reason for Botswana.

Why on earth would anyone want to go to Botswana for any reason yet alone for a pre-season tour. They have no beaches and we have W-S-M right on our doorstep where you can have as many football pitches as you want when the tide goes out without catching malaria and all the other tropical disease that Botswana has on offer. Hope they have taken out travel insurance to cover elephant trampling and hippo eatings, which are less likely to happen in W-S-M than the southern regions of Africa.

Seriously is there a valid reason for wasting this money when a weekend at Butlins (are they still in business?) would save thousands.

The destination is Botswana because SL has been visiting the country for several years. I understand initially for a holiday but now perhaps I surmise because he is spending some of his millions in a philanthropic way.

Investment for social improvement and also maybe financial returns. This is my guess anyway.

And its also a guess that he is funding the City's trip to fly the Bristol City flag in the country and to help improve the local football standard.

All pure guesswork Mike but maybe a lot of truth in it?

I think it's a great idea. Has anyone failed to see the globalization of soccer at the world cup? If we uncover one diamond in the rough by having links in Africa, it will all be worth it. I'm sure SL is funding this and it will show our players how lucky they are when they see grass roots footy in Africa.

It also gives the players a good test pre-season where they are unlikely to see any crunching "I'd love to hurt you" tackles that some of the other pre-season friendlies might invite......

Have you been watching the World Cup Tampa ?
I do agree on it being worth it though where diamonds in the rough are concerned, but you still have to find them.
