More good news. He's always looked good whenever he's played (except Pool away).

    http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/bartley-contract-1716719.aspx

Things not going as badly as the Laudrup fanboys would have liked. You can see them desperately trying to put a bad spin on any development. "What if we get relegated?" "It'll break the wage structure". "He got the best for him not the club" etc etc.

I'm sure one will be along in a minute.

Yeah but can Garry Monk make the sun shine 365 days a year? Laudrup can...

**** mine does every thread have to be GM v ML or the ml lovers wont be happy. ****ing grow up.

This is a thread about a player who has bags of potential signing a new contract. We should all be happy with that. I think he will be a class centre half.

Even more good news. Our summer is moving along smoothly isn't it

Bartley, imo, has the potential to become a superb CB, and a few years down the line, the best we have.

Its a crime his progression was hindered so badly under the previous regimen, but now he has a supportive manager and now his short term future is safe and secure his confidence must soaring.

Everything is in place for him to learn, grow and progress into a capable and reliable CB, a-la Amat, It's up to him now.

I agree with you completely stumpy. I like the way monk is involving the up and coming youngsters by giving them some decent contracts and encouragement that they are part of Swansea. This season not only are the first team got Pre season friendlies but the under 21's have got their programme of pre season games as well...

Yep, glad to see he's signed up - let's hope we make more use of him this season <ok> He should at least be guaranteed a starting position in FA Cup and League Cup matches, plus I would like him used in matches such as West Ham away where we face an aerial bombardment <ok>

    No I don't TLF

Imo loaning him out was a poor decision all around.

There's a gulf in the quality in play, players and training in the championship. Loaning a developing U21 player to Birmingham may be good, exposing him to first team football and competition.

Bartley is not an U21 development player and taking him out of a very small squad and dumping him into the championship was a step-down for him and must have felt like a slap in the face. He's as good as Amat, imo, what if Amat was loaned out to a championship club?

Bartley surely thought he'd feature off the bench, or start a Europa game, cup game, or at least be used as cover for a pressured and stretched defense due to a huge playing schedule.

Loaning him out must have hurt, being told he'll not feature in any arena for the Swans even though we didn't have enough players to compete on all fronts, must have felt like a boot to the b0ll0x and wouln't have helped him improve as a player in any way.

He learned nothing in the Championship, it was a step-down for him in quality of play, training.

So you would prefer him to sit on the bench all year or play against league 2 sides in the CO cup. rtaher than playing against QPR. Burnley, Leicester, who we will be playing us this year. Great logic. playing no football improves a player. It doesnt matter what bartley thought, it is what the manager wants. he has come back a better player for playing a lot of games against very good quality opposition

Better players than bartley have been loaned out and it has helped them improve. But I suppose you know a lot better than all the top managers.

Great news, I have high hopes for him. Personally I think the loan period helped as he seemed a lot more focused and switched on when he came back.

Good news for us. If he fulfills his potential he'll be a valuable player given his physique. Always rated him and let's hope he kicks on and we start to see what he can do.

I wouldn't prefer Bartley to sit on the bench. Bartley, imo, played well for us, except in one game against Liverpool. He has played as well as Amat imo, and I think he's at least as good a player as Amat. That's my point, I question that he gained anything from his loan TLF. Amat would not benefit from being loaned out to Birmingham, I see him and Bartley on a par and that's why I doubt Bartley progressed through playing in the championship.

I don't think players the caliber of Bartley and Amat, at this stage of their development actually improve from being loaned out to lower leagues. They both need to be in a premiership environment.

Just my opinions TLF that's all <ok>

But the people in charge unlike you didnt think he was as good as Amat and therefore would have spent a season or most of it playing no competetive football. So in sending him to Birmingham he played competetive football, not just training and then watching a game on a Saturday. He maintained his fitness, actually his match fitness. He played against very good sides and very good players, many of who will be in the PL this year. Thats what he got out of it and he has improved from playing week in week out, so to be playing week in week out has to be good for his development.

Of course this is only my opinion

See your point but I don't think it developed him as you say TLF.

My point isn't the loan deal but a championship loan deal. If he went solely to keep fitness levels up then yes, but to develop, no. He wouldn't go to Birmingham to develop.

it's not just about fitbess, It's about match fitness, match intensity. I don't think playing against QPR, Leceister, Burnley, Derby, Forest, Wigan, Reading and there are more, will do your development any harm whatsoever. These are good sides and all contain some PL quality players. Where you have to be at your best or you will get mugged.
