Harry Redknapp interested in Eduardo as QPR look to build for solid Premier League campaign. Harry Redknapp is considering a move for ex-Arsenal striker Eduardo. The 31-year-old World Cup forward is a free agent having reached the end of his four-year deal with Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk. With no transfer fee to pay, QPR boss Redknapp has joined a string of Premier League clubs that see the Brazilian-born marksman as an option. Other clubs keen include Stoke City and West Ham, both of whom believe Eduardoâs experience of English football would be an asset. They face competition, however, from Besiktas and Fenerbahce, both of whom want to take the striker to Turkey, while Italian Serie A side Lazio are also in the mix. Eduardo netted 22 goals in 67 appearances for Arsenal after signing from Dinamo Zagreb. But his time in north London â between 2007 and 2010 â was ravaged by injury. He was ruled out for a year after suffering a broken leg and *dislocation of his left ankle following a horror tackle by Birminghamâs Martin Taylor in February 2008. He regained his fitness but never fully recovered his form and was sold to Shakhtar. Fulham were keen on a move for him back in January but instead bought *Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglou, who turned out to be a disaster at £11million. Eduardo made 23 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, scoring nine goals. Over his 114 appearances during his time there, he netted a total of 36 times. He helped Shakhtar to a clutch of trophies, including four Ukrainian Premier League titles, and last month was part of the Croatian World Cup squad that failed to make it out of the group stages in Brazil. Redknapp is also keen on Cardiff defender Steven Caulker, as well as free-agent Rio Ferdinand, although he faces *opposition from the Rangers money men for the latter. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...-interested-eduardo-qpr-3812355#ixzz36XT9I9XK Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
I've just been reading up on this guy and his talent is not in question, just his injury riddled body which should have us turning away. Some players are simply tough and others have glass jaws ............... it's a fact of life. Can anyone name a player who had suffered injuries over a period of time, then came back to have a completely injury free couple of years? ................. I can't.
Has he been out injured a lot in the last 4 years as well then, or just referring to the Arsenal situation?
Similar to how I think of Rio - if they can negotiate a one year deal, with pay mostly based on apps and goals, I wouldn't mind it too much. Charlie, Remy replacement, Bobby, and Eduardo all competing for one striking berth sounds great to me.
He fits Redknapps profile, old, injury prone and on massive, massive wages. Not what we should be looking at though.
Was the point I was trying to make He is still getting into the Croatia squad and performing at a relatively high level. Granted he may not be the same player Arsenal paid a fair bit of money for, but he appears to be still doing a pretty decent job in front of goal. Decent goals per game ratio for Shaktar, although I have to admit that I am not too convinced about the quality of that league.
