That probably just shows Americans will pretend to be anything even soccer fans if it means they get on TV. Obviously all the real fans interviewed who knew Donovan wasn't playing had their contributions left on the cutting room floor.
there was a tv clip posted here or elsewhere a few weeks ago where fans of chelsea arsenal man utd in britain were asked their opinions of players that don't exist but who the interviewer said their club was interested in buying. 95% of them said they knew all about the players and started trotting out "facts" about them and their style of play.
