All well and good but we dont need the money plain and simple. Monks first full season in charge so he Will need all the help possible , it makes no sense to sell 3 players and make ourselves weaker, and monks job harder . We dont have massive bills to pay so why sell? We need good players not cash in the bank, we have money and manage it well.
I'm torn on this. It's great that we don't need to sell and I'd love to keep Ben and Bony but £50m is a hell of a lot of money. The club have shown what they can spend and invest well in the past and see no reason for this not to continue. £25m on players and £25m on ground and other developments. I'll be happy if it went either way.
£50m and a broken team, WHY?? As we are now in the top 50 richest clubs in the world out of thousands of clubs that exist then what is the point of putting ourselves in a position that clubs like spurs want our players and we end up weaker. We are not desperate for money and if the players are under contract then we are in the driving seat and should tell everyone that comes sniffing around that nobody is for sale this season and i mean nobody as well because we need everyone on board and the new recruits to give monk the best possible chance of doing well this season......That is what i would say.
Your assuming it will be a broken team , we could very well end up with a team just as well . We had a better season without Bony in reality . We must make money while we are up , we wont be here forever
Today: "Swansea City have slapped a £25 million price tag on Wilfred Bony as part of a £40 million price for a group of players that are said to be interesting Liverpool, according to British press reports....... .......Liverpool are also interested in Swansea defender Ben Davies and goalkeeper Michel Vorm, as they replicate the practice they targeted on Southampton where they target players in trios from the same club. " It'll be Arsenal next. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier League/Swansea City for up-to-the-hour mix of headlines and fantasy
I don't understand the rationale behind selling a starting left back in Ben Davies (for the most part a fixture in that position - one of the better left backs in league), in order to get Siggy - who was not a regular starter at Spurs and at this point is not guaranteed to be a regular starter for us. If Shelvey continues to develop and mature, Michu comes back to his original form, JDG returns, Pablo avoids injury and plays the way we know he can, Gomis also plays a deeper #10 behind Bony .... etc, then I don't see Siggy being more than a guy off the bench or an occasional starter ... unless he produces superb form. Also throw into that mix that Pozuelo was in the photos of players returning for pre-season. And I haven't even mentioned Ki or Canas or Emnes or Fulton or Leon. So letting Davies go in return for Siggy doesn't make much sense to me. Not that I wouldn't mind adding Siggy to our mix of midfield players, but definitely not at the cost of letting Davies go.
Thing is, Yankee, there's likely going to be gaps in that list. Canas and Michu seem to be definitely on their way, Fulton still has much to learn, JdG likely to be too costly, Ki blows hot and cold and Poz is not flavour of the month. If it comes to a choice between buying Siggy or JdG, I would go with Siggy every time but I agree that we shouldn't be trading a full back for a midfielder unless the latter is, by our standards, exceptional.
The point is this also, if we do not sell Ben then Taylor will not sit on the bench another season, so he will be off, so it will be one or the other, getting £10 or 12 Million for Ben who is home grown, and a stand in for Taylor is really good business, and I think Taylor when at his best is the better player, certainly the better defender anyway!.................
I dont get what fans see in siggy. He had a good few games for us in the championship and even that fizzled out and never did nothing for the last 5 games and then he turned us down for another club who eventually dropped him and moved him on who that club did the same and he found himself on the bench, Now spurs has him surpluss to requirements and want to sell him and to say they want £10m for him. He is never worth £10 million to us to sit on the bench most of the time and if he cant hold on to a regular first team place for other clubs then how the hell is he going to be a regular for us..£10 million will be wasted and we can do better and cheaper elsewhere for a player who will have to accept that he will be a squad player only...
I'll break the news gently, Dai. Siggy played for us in the Premier League. In his first game (sub) I think he provided the pass for Danny's winner against Arsenal. Siggy didn't get games at Spurs because they were spoilt for choice for big name players. That's why some players do better at smaller clubs. They get more games, get in their groove and play better. With us, he was an important cog and a lot of the play went through him. At Spurs he was just one of a number of cogs many of whom were as good if not better than him: so they got the games whilst his form stagnated sitting on the bench. If he's got any sense he should grab the chance to come back to us with both hands because he'll become an important cog again in a team that likes to play football.
For me Beppeswan ,I think we will struggle this season and not because of players. I love Garry Monk and have never had a bad word to say about him , especially when he played . But I think he is over his head as a manager. Lets facevit , wedidnt look anything near special last season when he took over at a very opportune time , easing shedule and a healthy team . Even our last 3 games , which we won , the first 2 were fairly lucky results and once Sunderland were assured of staying up they couldnt care less about last game . I will be 100% behind Monk come kick off , but not feeling comfortable no matter the team assembled. Our problems arent with Laudrup getting sacked , its with who Huw hired imo .. just how I feel .Jenkins whinged about spending money and getting away from spending and turned around and brought in Gomis at an absorbant wage . Time will tell , but I want us to be prepared to go down with a ton of money and a team that can stay together if it happens .
The quintessential Daiswan post. 1) Siggy played for us in the Premier 2) Flabbergasting that you don't remember as he was a key part of us staying up (scoring and providing the assists that we were previously struggling with) 3) After his loan with us he joined Spurs where he has been for 2 years. There was no club inbetween.
Sig was playing for a different team and manager, I for one hope we dont bring back Sig , think he will struggle with this team and manager ...
