If we didn't eat meat, there is no way we'd have evolved to where we are today. Eating meat, particularly cooked meant we could get what we need from our food without expending as much energy digesting (herbivores tend to eat all day then sleep) meaning our brains could grow larger whilst our guts grew smaller. Catching the meat brought humans together to work as teams, creating the basis of society. There was an offshoot of herbivore humanoids, with large teeth for grinding seeds and grasses and a larger gut but they died out as they weren't successful. Increased rates of cancer in meat eaters is usually more to do with lifestyle choices and method of cooking. Overcooking meat produces carcinogens. Vegetarians tend to be deficient in various things, particularly omega 3 as our guts cannot convert the vegetative form.
I didn't notice you'd edited in some references, so I've taken a small bit of time to skim through some of them. They seem to confirm that we were not vegetarian, but ate meat way back in the day. Not exclusively nor excessively , but we did eat meat. Cheers for the links.
Never tried this(for obvious reasons)but had a very nice smoked mutton stew in Reykjavik.Always wanted to try the smoked puffin but was never there when it was puffin catching season so it wasn't readily available. I'd avoid the fermented/rotted shark and the ray cartilage at all costs though, christ knows how it can even get to be an "acquired taste".
A lion eats raw meat because it lacks the ability to hold a frying pan over a fire, if it could do that simple (for us) task it would choose to cook all of its food. Wild animals live longer if their food is free of parasites and bugs and the only reason that you don't see lions that are ill in the wild is because some other ****ing meat eating beast polishes them off. In fact if you offered a lion a KFC chicken bucket, it would bite your hand off!
Spot on. We are better evolved to eat raw meat although years of cooking meat has changed this and our susceptibility to pathogens and spoilage organisms has increased as a result. Although, steak tartare and sushi is a great treat !!
Quorn is a mycoprotein and has to be grown under carefully controlled conditions to prevent a toxic strain of the RNA to be produced. The manufacturers have many controls and fail safe procedures in place to ensure that the product on sale is perfectly safe. It was a great innovation developed in marlow, bucks.
With food production and the pressure to drive down prices I wouldnt trust any mass produced food stuff these days.
We have a vegetarian in the house. ****ing Quorn everybastardwhere. Here's a thing. I think if you choose to be a veggy, you've said no to meat, yeah? SO don't eat pretend meat. It's ****ing stupid. Either you want meat or you don't. If you want to eat pretend meat, just cut out the middle man and have a bacon sarnie. You shouldn't be allowed to pretend to eat meat if you don't. Otherwise get yourself some vegetables and stop eating plastic things that look like tiny chicken breasts. It's ****ed up, I tell you. MAKE YOUR MIND UP.
