I rather he did go abroad if he isn't staying at Saints.

I really think it'd be worth taking a punt on Pandev. Magnificent player in the right system. Could play as a number 10 here. Not everyone we buy has to be under 23.

I'm not interested in Caulker really. The others I would definitely be happy with.

you need to be wary of the zeki fryers type situation there though. can't take a stand and potentially let a player go abroad more cheaply only to find that he still turns up on your doorstep.

Fair comment - I know lots of people have their doubts about him.

He does have a release clause in his contract (believed to be £8m) following relegation and would be a good fit for our system I think.

I live in Cardiff and a number of their fans have identified him, rather than Medel, Whittingham etc as the player they'd most like to keep hold of. There's also the bonus that I think he needs to settle into a team a have a few good seasons somewhere after playing for a few different clubs (be it on loan or through a transfer) and so is someone who could be the backbone of our defence for sometime.

Certainly someone I'd like us to persue ahead of, for example, Astori who could take time/never settle into the team (or leave after a season to a 'bigger' club if he does)

Just a hunch, but I think Caulker would be an excellent fit.

I think he shows good promise, and I've seen some stat somewhere, and I can't remember exactly what it is, that he made the fewest mistakes of any CB last season, or something along those lines. Still, I think he has a lot of progress to make and there's never a guarantee he'll make it. £8m is a lot I think, but I'd take him if he cost a bit less.

I also take into account that the way Cardiff defended is very different to the way we defend. Their CBs spend a lot of time sitting very deep, holding their positions and just clearing away crosses and parking the bus. Ours spend a lot of time pushed up to the halfway line, joining in with the passing game, and covering a lot of ground. It's a lot more demanding on the mental side of the game, because you have to to be constantly thinking about your positioning and reading the game. Almost a completely different role to how the more defensive teams play their CBs.

If I live that long, I expect to see Astori linked to us for the next twenty transfer windows.

I think signing three CBs would be a little over-the-top for one window. I'm happy with Maya being one of the four.

A new bid? Or are they just late to hearing about the original one (which was reportedly rejected)?

Ryan Gauld's gone to Sporting Lisbon. I know we weren't ever actually linked with him, but I'd have still liked him :(

Again -a fair point. But Caulker has an excellent season at Swansea playing a similar system to the one we play.

I think the point you make may well be relevant to the GK position though. It's been clear during the world cup that keepers like Neuer and Lloris are god sends to teams that play a high line and are vital to the team system. That is certainly not Marshall/Foster's strength so it may be more prudent to look for a keeper that better suits the system in that sense (although I really rate Marshall as a box keeper/shot stopper).

Sky are good at in depth analysis of stuff (after all they have several channels to fill) but they are no better than others when it comes to just repeating rumours.

The way she has worded it makes out amy is a lil slow on this info.
