Yeah, the Daily Mirror are saying Davies is heading over for talks after a fee was agreed with Swansea for a reported £8m. Not a superstar signing but Davies is a very good young LB and after the influx of foreign talent coming in last summer we do need some experienced Premier league players. Certainly a very good addition for us if true.
I don't know enough about Ben Davies to comment too much. But Danny Rose looked good when playing for a club lower down the league, yet there was much to be desired from him in a Spurs shirt. Does Davies stand out like Rose did at Sunderland, because he's one of the better players in a mid table team? I'm one of Rose's biggest critics, but signing another player who could end up being Rose MkII, seems pointless. Unless someone is going to tell me how awesome Davies is, and how much of an improvement this signing is, of course?.....
If we only buy proven players we are doomed to be 6th forever as 5 other clubs have more money and can buy better ones. We need to buy players like Davies and hope they turn out to be better than anyone thinks.
Swans fan in peace! Davies really stepped up a level, got thrown in the deep end when Taylor broke his leg, was brought through the youth, good passer and great pushing forward, CAN be caught off guard a little but thats just his age, can be a great signing for you.
Cheers Jack but we also had Swansea fans tell us how great Siggy was, or Sunderland fans telling us how great a player Rose looked. Always take on views from rivals fans, yet the the majority post here with the view that if a player (or manager) has performed well for their club, their level of performance will continue when they move, shame it doesn't always work that way.
Would happily have Siggy back, thought a swap might have been on the cards. But you are right, we have had 'promising players' that turn out to be complete flops, hope this isn't the case for him. Give him a bit of time to settle in i.e wait ATLEAST 10 games before the sheep chants
Ok, thats a deal! I usually call them useless after 2 games but we will give Davies (if he signs) at least 10 games before we turn on him!
Too many signings are made on the basis of too little evidence: any decent player usually puts together one very good season. Not a reason to pay big bucks for him.
I can't believe you wait for two whole games! There's another issue besides the quality of the player when they go to a richer club: how much will it affect a player to know his starting spot is in perpetual jeopardy? I think Gylfi's a good example. It could be that he was not good enough to be our CAM (almost all the other posters think so). But if he stayed as CAM every day, would we have ended up being happy? He could easily have had 15 goals and around 10 assists, just based on how much he's scored in a part time role. There's also a world of difference when a team is looking for you to be a match winner versus when it's hoping you don't lose the match. I still think Rose has the ability to be a very good left back. But his confidence took a hit (along with all our other defenders save Walker, really, in a year of helter-skelter two-coach disorganization), and if it doesn't recover firmly, all the attributes in the world won't make him a good choice.
Chadli immediately caused suspicion just by his name but two whole games was enough to form an opinion! I had fairly high hopes for Siggy but he made the mistake of arriving after a impressive loan spell with swansea and then looking energetic and positive in pre season, fatal mistake! Pre season stars rarely make good long term buys, you want your new signings to look hopeless in pre season, that way you at least know they stand a chance of success!
But Davies' two very good whole seasons of better stats than Shaw's one very good season will show Swansea won't even give Levy a reply to the tweet he put out. For £6M-£8M we expect Siggy for free and another £10M player for free. This is based ofcourse on Davies having a long time left on his contract, Swansea being a profit club in the tens of millions per year, Sigurdsson not performing for Spurs and Davies young age and homegrown status inflating the price unrealistically. I personally don't think Levy's tweet was aimed at Spurs fans, it was aimed at Huw Jenkins and behind the scenes there was probably more incentives discussed on top of the cash he says is fair.
"We" or you mean that's what you'd expect? I think realistically you and I both know Swansea will accept a much lower offer than that, if reports are true an £8m bid as already been accepted and he was supposedly meant to be travelling to Hotspur Way to discuss terms, though like always take anything the English media say with a pinch of salt. I reckon Siggy may be included in any potential bid for Bony (which I hope not as I'd like to keep Gylfi around) but if you're looking to do player deals, then Siggy for Davies would be about right, not Siggy + 1 other AND money, that's just ludicrous, Levy doesn't have twitter by the way mate, they're all silly parody accounts.
Huge shame to see him go. I know he's passed his best but he's still a decent defender to have for cups/ injuries to others. Will only wish him the best of luck if the Hull move does indeed go through, they've got themselves a fine player and a great guy.
Sounds like we're quickly finalising deals for players that have no future under Pochettino and that should see us bring in Pochettinos targets and not be in the situation where we're making late purchases. Thats one positive! Looks like we're going to sign a left back and a centre back as if Pochettino plays this high pressing game then he will need a settled back line he can depend on but as SC mentioned the other day, Kaboul is crocked, Verts performances have declined and Chiricheș is still fairly unknown so I hope whoever we sign is proven and able to hit the ground running.
