My all time favourite band. Can't believe there was any doubt whether they were big enough for Glastonbury.

In saying that it has sort of shattered the image for me having seen them looking so old. They're still amazing but I sort of never picture them as old, its like The day you find out your dad isn't superman.

I don't think the argument was ever about them being big enough for Glasto, just about the genre of music.

Anyway, they were epic. Absolutely smashed it. Best performance I've seen this year so far.

Wished I'd seen it. Due to kids hiding remote from me I missed them. Saw them many years ago when they toured the black album(shows how long) and they blew me away then.

Metallica are one of the worlds biggest bands and being at Glasto was not a risk. They have probably sold more records than the majority of acts put together and there is some rubbish at Glasto on view.
Thought Robert Plant was poor and his journey into Eastern Music leaves me bored stupid. Just get back to Zepp and give us some great music again.

Couldn't agree more Gordon. A lot of Plants solo stuff leaves me rigid with boredom. He will always be Led Zep for me. Metallica have been right at the top for years now despite all their issues and fully deserved to be the first "heavy metal" band to headline Glastonbury.

Metallica kicked arse. Shame the set didn't go to Springsteen proportions from a few years ago but it was still great.

I flicked over to another set and I thought I was watching some sort of re-animated corpse performing and then finally realised it was Bryan Ferry!

I loved the Black album in the early 90's and a few other tracks like 'Fuel' but my view of James Hetfield has been forever dimmed by his close association with Hunting. He has been pictured with the animals he's killed and it's something I strongly disagree with.

I was never a great fan of Glastonbury went in 79 and 81, prefered Reading in 1980 and the shows at Donnington and Port Vale FC in 81 were more for me, heavy rock and metal rather than the dippy CND ethical twonk that was on offer at Glastonbury, I wouldn't bother with it now full of the London Luvvies, BBC liberal elite and air conditioned Yurties. I saw some dancing crap on BBC 2 earlier on today and thought if that was Reading or Donnington from my time the beer cans would have been hitting the stage in a torrent, I remember Def Leppard got a massive canning in 1980 at Reading........Happy Days!!!

There next album better be worth the wait. I don't mind them playing ****ty festivals like Pink Pop and Glasto as long as they still make good music often enough.

If their next album is as pants as their latest demo sounds, then I'm burning all of my metallica memorabilia, because I refuse to stick by a band that's just completely about the money, and only makes an average album every 7 years.

They can't use the excuse of old age because it's a heck of a lot harder to go around doing world tours and big festivals than to write albums, when it comes to aging and having to bare through the pain.

Not a massive metal fan, heavy rock yes, but not so much metal. Metallica one of those bands who transcend across their own genre though. Don't care what they release now or in the future, their back-catalogue make them a great watch.

Rest of it has been turgid for me, always more of a Reading, Leeds man. Look forward to Biffy at T in the Park.
