Any info on the Dawson transfer from your end?
£4M fee agreed so the rumour goes.
We have been looking for a Dawson to replace our old one who left last summer.

Not sure on the rumour but would strike me as the type of signing Bruce would make. Dawson often gets crucified if he has a bad game, he can play decent for 10-15 games on the spin but once he has a bad game then he will be attacked for every negative aspect of his game, yet he is still a quality defender, a natural defender who would make a great signing (for Hull) if true.

Would be a another great signing for us Dawson, another next level quality player for a club our size.
Bruce really is building a decent squad.

Snodgrass is another decent player for you. I know Sunderland fans are trying to ridicule you as they have an issue with Bruce and his spending, but so far hes spent well. Long and Jelavic are top strikers for a team around mid table and Snodgrass (season before last) was in fine form. Hudd & Livermore where also great signings. Can't knock Bruce so far in terms of his transfers overall.

Thudd and Livermore signing kicked it off last summer if we hadnt got those two I doubt if Long or Jelavic would have signed in Jan, massive signing in our clubs history to get Huddlestone on a permanent deal it takes a deal like that to set the ball rolling, Livermore was as important to get signed this summer.
How do you reckon your new manager will do??
Great job at Southampton but a bigger club brings greater pressure for success, I hope he gets a couple of seasons to get things working his way.

Hope it's true. Dawson is a nice guy and been a good servant to Spurs but imo not good enough for a top 6 side.

I sincerely hope the club keeps Dawson as I believe he still has a lot to give, not only on the pitch but also around the club. In my opinion he and Brad Friedel are the only current players at the club who could kiss the club badge and genuinely mean it.

Granted since around November time he has had his weaknesses highlighted, but it is quickly forgotten that until then he was probably our most consistent defender. As things stand, selling him would leave us with the overrated Vertonghen, the unproven Chiriches and a crocked Kaboul.

During his time at the club, Dawson has been a model professional and his response to the shameful way AVB treated him when he arrived, was a commendable work harder in training attitude.

He may not be in Poch's plans and he may not be a regular in our PL side next season, but he remains an asset to our club and I for one would be very sorry to see him depart.

Not sure how far down the line a move to Hull is, but I would be very surprised if a previous manager of ours was not interested in signing Dawson.

Agree with this, especially the bit about the over rated Vertonghen.

Dawson always puts in a whole hearted performance, doesn't go missing in games and appears to wear the shirt with pride.
He has his faults and makes mistakes but he never hides on the pitch.
    I hope we keep Dawson

IMHO two CBs must be incoming for Dawson to be sold.
One is not enough with Kaboul possibly being the new Ledley.

I like Daws but as a post above says,no good enough for a top 6 side,we have to decide,do we keep him and finish outside top 6, or get a replacement to take us onwards,i know what i would like

Spurs finishing lower than 6th is hardly governed by having Dawson in the squad.

    "Part of the problem though"

Not the significant one (more important things to be fixed) .

Good honest opinions there of Dawson, he is a decent centre back like Curtis Davies who was brilliant for us last season but he too isnt top six standard if I am honest. Talk of him for England but that was bollocks if you ask me.
Just shows how a usually strong position for England is very weak at the minute.
Cahill and Jagielka are not much better than Dawson and Davies.

Dawson's still a good defender, but our high pressing under Villas-Boas exposed his weaknesses, much as our expansive game under Redknapp did.
Going to Hull would probably suit him, as he'd be familiar with a number of their players, would be playing a style that suits him more and would get better protection from the midfield.
As Spurcat suggests though, I'd be surprised if Redknapp wasn't in for him if he is available.

I can see why Pochettino might want to move him on, but I'd have mixed feelings about it, much as I have about Huddlestone and Livermore.
Caulker's sale was just a mistake, in my opinion, but it's sad to see us selling players who seem to actually give a crap about the club.

Every Spurs fan I know outside of this board wants him out. Not because they don't like him but because they don't think he's good enough.

I think it comes down to not being a fashionable player. If Dawson and Rose had joined us from Real Madrid and Juventus, or even just some obscure club where they'd done well people would be saying to give them another season like they are with the rest. In my opinion neither player was any worse than the rest of our defence last season but fans see what they want sometimes so of course Kaboul's form was only to do with injuries and of course Jan was only like that because he was played out of position or the manager was ****. Basically it's what Sherwood was talking about, except I don't think it applied to him :D

I remember when Dawson was a fan favourite and everyone chanted "Dawson for England" as he collected his player of the year trophy on the final day of the season but some fans have either forgotten or dismissed it as irrelevent. I could understand us letting him go if he wants a regular place in a side for the final few years of his career but otherwise I'd be disappointed if we sold him.

That said, if we do sell him I hope he goes on to be a hit elsewhere like Huddlestone has. As much as I admire Redknapp I can't see how a partnership of Rio and Dawson is going to be anything other than a disaster so I'd rather he went to Hull.

Bassong (remember him ?? ) played a fair number of PL games in the 2009-10 season.
It takes all sorts to make a decent squad.

He and Dawson were excellent in defence that season. Players like Tevez used to skin Bassong and Dawson for fun at times but up against the strong bullying attackers there weren't many better. Sounds silly to say but I remember Bassong putting Zamora in his back pocket, which was no mean feat at the time.

There is an argument I guess that the PL attacking of 2014-15 is a lot more faster than 2009-10.
And a Dawson 5 yrs older is more of a liability now.

But still sad if he really has no place whatsoever in any of the 50 odd competitive games
Spurs will play next season (injuries to other CBs or not) .

He's one that I find difficult to imagine it ever being worthwhile selling. He's not gonna bring in big bucks and everyone on here would be delighted if we managed to get a player as commited and useful over a season as Dawson for just 4m.

Surprised it took as long as 7 comments til we heard "he's not top x quality".
