A lot of people moaned and thought a million for Rickie was too much.

Simple fact is that every single transfer is a gamble, which is why it's normally better to stick with the good players you have :).

Dutch are reporting Pellé as 99% done, according to my journalist friend.

Not at all, I would be just as wary of people claiming he will set the Prem alight - much like many did with Osvaldo, just seems to me that the general reaction is 1) an overreaction, and 2) a bit melodramatic. I can't see how so many people are so knowledgeable of an striker who has never played consistently in any of the top leagues to make a judgement on him just yet...

He has spent his career in Serie A and Eredivisie. It's not like he's been playing in Nepal.

Think you've largely answered your own question here. He's just south of 30, and when he has been in top leagues he hasn't gotten on the pitch consistently. He only has a short spell of competence in a league notorious for inflating the goal totals of middling strikers, and we're paying a rather sizable sum for his services.

Ok its good that were signing someone. My only concern is that with J-rod still out for 6m ať least, rickie gone etc we have to depend on this guy for goals. Memmories of de ridder make mě worry about dutch imports.

Thinking positively, perhaps he's just a late bloomer, Rickie-style.

I suppose I've personally been a bit extreme with some of my comments - there's a chance he'll be good, but it seems very unlikely based on the few Feyenoord games I've watched. I'm not dismissing him based on him playing in a crap league - I'd be very happy if we signed someone like De Vrij or Martins Indi or even Jordy Clasie, but Pelle just seems like a typical "B-league striker" - the kind of player who thrives on crappy defending and goalkeeping. Much like Afonso Alves was, in contrast to someone like Wilfried Bony. At any rate, while it's foolish to write any player off, the fee considering his age and what I've seen of his ability seems like a big big risk.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is enough to make me massively worried about this one.

On the positive side of all the transfers, I'm quite overwhelmed by the amount of player I'm going to be able to boo next season.

He'll be able to hold the ball up and be an aerial presence even if he doesn't score a lot, which is basically most of what Lambert did for us anyway.

I agree, the stats don't make for encouraging reading and I am as wary as the next person that he is coming from Holland, but that's just a quick glance at his wikipedia page... I know it's a cliché but Koeman would not bring him here for that amount of money if there were huge doubts over his ability to perform. Yes, there are better options, but I also highly doubt he will be the only Striker we sign this summer. As we learnt last season, it is all about strength in depth.

Rickie hasn't really been that much of an aerial presence since his back woes began...but that wasn't much of a problem because he did far, far more.

Come on, yes it is. Let's not get into one of those tiresome debates about Lambert being "more than just a big man", I don't disagree, but all he did all season was receive the ball with his back to goal and play in other players. Ok, his passing is probably better than Pelle's. What else are we going to miss?

He didn't just receive the ball with his back to goal and dink it to a guy near him, he was practically a midfielder at times. Did plenty in wide positions too. The guy's a playmaker, and worlds better at that side of the game than Pelle. It's a pretty big part of the game too.
