Les Reed said only last week that he felt Lallana could give us more time, implying that he thought there was at least a chance he would stay. Has he even spoken to him since then?

Fire sale implies to me that we are selling off players at reduced prices, and normally happens when bankruptcy is looming. That ain't happening on both fronts as far as I'm aware?
