Yeah, some commentators do give that one a go to be fair. I think the Brazilian R thing is perhaps understandable, but when they miss out consonants that just strikes me as lazy, particularly as guidance is clearly available on how these names should be pronounced.
It should be a big part of their job to revise these things. It's not like they work all day. Spend a bit of time going through pronunciations before a game, it can't be hard. I'd say the same thing about the Soccer Saturday guys if it weren't so funny. Turkish names can be a bugger because they look straightforward but they're not.
Would be interesting to hear that bellend Merson try and say Timothy's name. Oh hold on a minute, no it wouldn't. It would just be embarrassing and a terrible reflection on Sky Sports hiring policy.
Merson is another prime example of the modern British current obsession with celebrating stupidity, and it infuriates me. (See TOWIE and it's bastard offspring for details).
He's a long way from stupid, but the spin off of celebrity culture is such that it becomes a leadership popularity contest rather than a sensible analysis of policy. So hence the emergence of 'character' politicians. Either way, I ****ing hate Merson.
I dunno, I think laughing at stupidity is, if anything, celebrating not being stupid. TOWIE is a good example of what you're talking about. People actually admire those idiots. No one admires Merson. The Boris thing is interesting. I don't know if people see him as stupid, but he does have that bumbling, clumsy thing working in his favour. He definitely doesn't project an image of stupidity (at least not on purpose) so anyone who gets that impression only has himself to blame.
Rare post and quick Polish lesson cz/ci/ć = 'ch' sz/si/ś = 'sh' y = as in the 'i' in it. i = 'ee' ę = nasally 'eln' ą = nasally 'aln' rz/zi/ż/ź = like a 'zh' sound in EraSure o = as in 'hot' dzi = 'j' and in 'jem' ł = 'w' w = v The 'ch', 'sh' and 'zh' sounds are actually pronounced slightly differently for each spelling. Either way: szczęsny = sh-ch-eln--snih boruc = boh-roots (AB always gets this wrong) kościelny (Polish pronounciation) = kosh-chyel-nih Kolodziejczak (Polish pronounciation) = kol-odge-yey-chak raziak = razh-yak jagielka (Polish pronounciation) = jag-yeh-w-car Błaszczykowski = bwaash-chih-kov-ski It's a crazy language but everything is written as it's pronounced (unlike English) which helps.
The people who think Boris is stupid are the same idiots that think Obama has done wonders as President. They see the picture, read the headline and thats decision made. Boris is ridiculously clever and I suspect plays on the 'likeable bumbling image' quite a lot. Wif Waf all the way for me
