Blimey, 40 years ago. I remember that like it was yesterday. We were the first team to go down as the 3rd from bottom. It was only 2 before that.
Crook is saying about it now. But was told the fee would come to 33m like a month ago at least I think.
Seems to depend who you ask. Peach thinks we could have got more and Crook says we have got a good deal. They're obviously not getting their information from the same source.
Both have said 27m with bonuses. Crook also said 33-34m including them, maybe Peach wanted 40m? We have to remember he is a Saints fan.
I think it's a good deal. Bye Luke, good luck or whatever. Now who's going to start a Saint Timothy thread?
This isn't surprising at all really is it? Chance to be a starter for one of the biggest clubs in the world at 18/19 and on a six figure contract if reports are to be believed is a complete no brainer. It is a win win for all concerned imo Utd get potentially their LB for the next 15 years, who has shown potential of becoming world class if he continues to improve Shaw gets a massive contract that will set himself and his family up for generations and gets to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world Saints get a large chunk of cash which they can use to sign a number of players to hopefully move the club forward (the fact that the funds are going to be wasted is beside the point) I've said it before but the only way teams of Saints' stature can improve is when they sell their players get inflated prices for them (which Saints seem good at) and reinvest and hope that the signings come off and the team moves forward. The hope then is the team can move forward sufficiently enough that the players good enough to play at the Champs League clubs aren't particularly fussed about leaving as Saints aren't far behind/on par. This is incredibly difficult/impossible but it is the only way that we will ever compete with the top clubs.
Won't quote ImpsSaint as his was a long post, but he is correct that we are getting a bigger profile. We aren't just a team producing the odd top player and selling, we are now well known here and abroad as a bit of a conveyor belt of talent. We will have the last laugh if we can roll out another Shaw or Lallana, so that sales can be seen as part of a business plan rather than asset stripping.
I don't see your point. They've won the league, despite there being bigger and richer teams around. So what if they lose Costa and perhaps a couple of others now? They'll buy more players, and they have a league win which their fans will remember forever. Is that not good enough? Would you not be delighted if Saints managed that? They've just given Koke a new contract, by the way.
I think I came in on a different meaning, sorry. I was thinking you were on about Saints not having a good squad broken up... crossed lines, now you have written this. I was trying to say that even winning teams get squads broken up. Edit: I still have my second place memory
I don't think Atletico's squad is being broken up anyway. Costa's leaving, but that could be down to wanting a new challenge more than anything else. They get a new striker basically every season and it's never a problem. Filipe might go but he's hardly too big for them, nor is he that important to them really. Koke is their most important player and Barcelona and United have just failed to land him.
