The financial punishment of £65,000 kinda puts Bendtner's fine of £80,000 into perspective, and all he did was flash his underpants! FIFA have done well to act decisevely for once but the punishment is well off the mark. He couldn't have argued with 6 months and a £100,000 fine and for me that's the bare minimum. If it was up to me it would have been 12 months and £250,000, payable to a Brasilian charity that helps the poor sods living in the favellas who earn the same in a year as this moron does in 5 minutes.
The fine is irrelevant. It's the ban that counts. 4 months is probably the shortest period FIFA could have specified. I think 6-12 months would have been more appropriate. Maybe next time eh?
I like that. I think the fine is only relevant if it's big enough. The purpose of a fine one would think is to hurt - and if it has to hurt it has to be big or don't bother. That's why I think £250,000 is the starting point imo. Most of these players spend big too. It's not like he's living in a council flat and you can guarantee is outgoings are huge. £250,000 would hurt - half a mil would be better. But that won't happen so I agree that the amount seems to be irrelevant, unfortunately. On another point I see the Uruguay public have rallied around Suarez and I really don't get that at all. Hero's welcome, apparently (scrolll down a little). http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28059782 If it was an England player he'd be vilified by most fans and rightly so, and get huge stick at every ground next season (as Suarez will no doubt). Are they deliberately ignoring the evidence or are they saying it doesn't matter? Don't understand. But don't forget this is the same Uruguay public that threw things and spat at the Australian team as they arrived at the airport for a world cup playoff game years ago so we shouldn't be suprised. Wonder what Gus makes of it?
They said on the news yesterday that suarez will still earn £3m+ in the 4 months even though he cant go near any football stadium so the £65,000 fine is pin money to him and irrelevant. The fine should be Double what he can earn in that 4 months which would be around the £6m mark and that way it will be a financial punishment to him...
I think FIFA got it right but there should have been one line added. "Do it again and you've got a life ban from football" That should clear his mind and cut the need to see a shrink.
