I will preface this with the point that I realise most of you probably don't know me and those who do, will probably not care about what I say. But I am honestly done being a supporter of CAFC, if not football altogether. The FA has no interest in sorting out the league structure for the good of England growth/showcase of English talent. We will continue to have "restructuring" that will favour the best teams while f**king over everyone else. The club has no interest in improving, only making a profit for the other network of clubs. (Poyet was the last straw) I would explain why this is a negative but I doubt that's really necessary. The "fans" on here seem to have no intent other than insulting others in petty one ups. VaV is especially awful in this regard. In fact I'd go as far as to say he's pretty ****y in general. I am not sure if ****y is an actual word, but regardless, it applies in this situation. He bitches more about useless things than my ex did. Once again, I realise most people won't care. But this is my story. I have supported Charlton until now....but I am just unable to at this point Goodbye, and goodluck
I completely understand where your coming from and don't blame you in the slightest. Hopefully things will improve (though I doubt it) and you'll be back. Take care
I'd wait till the start of the season before making such decisions. Whilst I'm not overly optimistic with the direction, I think it's only fair to see how we do under RD given the full summer. No matter what disillusions I've had in the past, nothing beats that feeling of walking to The Valley on game day and soaking in the atmosphere from the other 14-16k who come together for the same love. It's very much cliche - but it is the fans club and nothing should make you feel how you do. Stick with us - it's been worse than it has and we will all need to stick together, through good and bad. None of us want to lose a fellow fan.
I sympathise. I'm dis-illusioned with the professional game. I can honestly say I've watched less than one half of two of England's games and given up. That's the only World Cup I've watched. I find the media focus on the Premiership to the detriment of 'lower league' football so galling that I have actually lost interest in football in general. That said I still follow Charlton as I have done for the past 56 years (it's ingrained now) but with the current situation at The Valley I intend limiting my attendence until I see how we start playing. Win or lose I go for the entertainment value which has been so lacking over the past few years - I've had enough of the crap. I will also cut out expenditure in the club shop. I spent over £100 last Christmas and was annoyed to realise that now less than 10% profit goes to the club. I feel robbed. Of that 10% I now feel it's just going to line Roly's pocket rather than investing in the club. I expect many of you will call me plastic or say I should support the club whoever plays for it and whoever owns it but I don't like being taken for a mug and that over-rides my love of Charlton.
I feel really positive about the Club at the moment. The Poyet situation has left a bad taste in my mouth. But it was HIS choice to leave. The Club gave him a good offer to stay but he didn't want to take it up. I am a big believer in the Academy and our best youngsters have got to be tied up to good long term contracts. £400000.00 for a player like Poyet who has been at Charlton for nine years and has had very good coaching is chicken feed. RD has spent a lot of money on the pitch, new seats, potentially the Academy and he is trying to bring the costs down. But it is imperative that we get the players on the pitch right. Vetekele and Buyens would appear to be a good start. Peeters said in his interview that bringing in the right sort of Championship players would be expensive. I think the next few weeks are going to be interesting as we await the next signings.
Can't really blame anyone for being disillusioned with football at the moment. I can't think of another sport where there is all the play-acting etc you see especially at the higher levels. And of course there's FIFA and the Dear Blatter. Can't agree with you about this forum though, most of the disagreement is pretty good-natured I think, which is why I keep coming back to it.
Mmmm, i can see ur point, but nothing tips you over and makes you stop supporting your club, surely ? I am gutted and frustrated with all things CAFC, but i will never walk away, never.
You're no "plastic" to me HRH, like you it's ingrained in me as well, but you're right when it starts to feel like your being taken for a mug, it's time to put football & Charlton into perspective...
This to me brings up the Question what do you want from our club... Do you want Charlton to be run by a billionaire, in the prem competing for the top prizes? Our History suggests we have always been a second tier team with our odd moment in the sun, Yes we have had some great times a FA cup win and a good run in the prem moving back to the valley etc.. I support Charlton because of the feeling I get when I walk into the Valley and hear the red red Robin, usually accompanied by my dad and nephew! And I wouldn't give that up because i'm disillusioned with the money men and all the other bu11Sh8t that goes with football
It takes time, but the very things you love may not be in place forever, even the simple things that supply the atmosphere, even Red Red Robin.
Everybody will have different reasons "SA.... I'm fully aware of the "hot dog with family & friends"scenario, but there are plenty of other fans, some long lost who dream of the days of quality players and memorable victories over truly famous teams. That's what made me proud, to see our team which had struggled for decades finally becoming a team to truly fear... Liverpool fans coming onto our forums after losing to us, saying "what's the point of Charlton"... The easy reply was "well I can think of three" My over-riding philosophy in supporting a football team is aspiring to see it get better and better...
Oh Dear How can 2 clubs so close be so far apart? "It's Saturday on Cold Blow Lane We've all come down to cheer, We've had our jellied eels And our glass of beer, Come rain or shine all the time Our families we will bring And as the Lions run on the pitch Everyone will sing"
That's right, Millwall, the family club. Do you lot still hate Ollie now or like him?
Sorry you're so disheartened Ryan-R. Hopefully a bit of time away from it will help, or maybe the Vetokele bloke scoring 30 goals next season.
I have just spotted the reference to me in the original post. I am surprised the Mods did not delete it, or is it one rule for me and one rule for everyone else ? I have had more yellow cards on here than Luis Suarez.
Correct - THE family club
