Morning, pinstickers. Hope everyone well. I quite like one this eve running in a decent Listed race, over the water, at Naas. AVENUE GABRIEL (7.30 Naas) – this filly has only won twice in seven starts but she has throughout her career repeatedly put up very classy performances. As a 2YO she was a Listed winner and also placed at Group 3 and Group 2 level. This term she has stepped up on those efforts to finish 3rd in Leopardstown’s ‘1,000 Guineas Trial’, beaten just 1.5 lengths by subsequent ‘Ribbisdale’ victor Bracelet, and then 4th in the Irish 1,000 Guineas itself. On that occasion she beat today’s favourite, Palace, by 1.25 lengths (although today the latter is 3 lbs better off). The old girls paternal granddam won the Oaks (Lady Carla) so Avenue Gabriel should tonight relish the step up to 10 furlongs. A negative is that she has to concede 3 lbs all round, as a result of winning that Listed race last term, but I don’t think this will prevent her obliging. I’ll discount her rivals as she had Palace behind her last time and that one also had a very, very hard race in the Oaks, 19 days ago, Carla Bianca and Circling only have a maiden win to their names, whilst the remainder, at the moment, appear no better than handicappers. All in all then I think current quotes of 9/2 are appealing. Good luck all.
Lord of the Dance @ 8/1 4:10 Carlisle Backed overnight at all rates down from 25/1 Early Doors to as low as 6/1 with some Crookmakers, Lord of the Dance seems to have been laid out for this race, The Carlisle Bell, reputed to be Britain's oldest horseracing prize, first run in 1559. He won the consolation race for the Bell last year off a -2lb lower mark, won at Ascot by 7 lengths a month later off a +2lb higher mark, has last years winning pilot Ryan Clark(-3) back on board, has a better draw than last year in trap 4 and will relish today's Good to Firm conditions. A big run looks on the cards. Good Luck
Correct Nass Source Wikipedia The Kiplingcotes Derby has taken place every 3rd. Thursday in March since 1519 at a small hamlet near Market Weighton, East Riding of Yorkshire. The Course takes in 4 Miles of tiring farm track and field. All entries must gather by the starting post at 11am on the morning of the Derby. Riders must weigh in at 10 Stones, excluding saddle. Horses of any age can enter. The winner receives the sum of 50 pounds. However, it may prove financially more beneficial to finish second, as the rider of the 2nd receives the sum of the entry fees . The rules also state that if the race is not run 1 year then it must never be run again. During the harsh winter of 1947 no one was daring enough to take part, so one local farmer lead a loan horse around the course, ensuring that the historic race would survive . During the 2001 Foot & Mouth crisis the race again was reduced to one horse and rider. Cheers Nass, enjoyed that bit of research, I guess it would be a real gass to attend, do you reckon Foxtrot will stay the trip? Good Luck
Nope, but Present Trend might. Also for £50 I reckon Stick might take the ride... Anyone got any views on the big Breeders Cup news? no? me neither.
It’s also the ‘Bibury Cup’ today at Salisbury and that dates back to the 19th Century. For a long time the mid to late June calendar of Wiltshire folk has read ‘21st June – wake up at the crack of dawn and then dance starkers around the stones at either Stonehenge or Avebury’, 25th June – put on your finest and head off to the Bibury Cup. Sadly for the ‘county set’ though, this year, I have participated neither on the 21st or the 25th.
Barney, as a fellow Wiltshire resident, I am shocked to have to tell you that I haven't ventured to Salisbury racecourse... I don't know why but it hasn't been a venturing point on my trips around the wolds and plains of this pleasant county.
Oxtail soup, salad, roll. Soup only lukewarm and considerably less bite than Mr Suarez therefore 3/10. Raining like buggery here, am expecting to see an Ark float past the window later this afternoon.
No top table fun for me. Sandwiches, crisps and an apple. Washed down with a bucket of water. Nass, I’ve only been once in the past 5 years or so. It’s never been a venue that’s particularly held my interest and is also in the unenviable position of having several other, and better, courses just as accessible to me (by train it is amazingly inaccessible from Chuckle Towers incidentally, not that I have ever been there by train). They have though in recent times greatly improved their Aug and Sept fixtures and both now stage Group races (one has been upgraded for the first time in ‘14).
After drawing a rare blank at Newton Abbot yesterday, AP McCoy should enjoy a more profitable day today at Worcester and has bright prospects of a treble via Its A Gimme, Able Deputy and Zip Wire. 64 winners already this season folks.
Avenue Gabriel now a non-runner due to the ground. I know this will come as a huge blow to the regular readers but please try to hide your disappoint stoically. Ease in the ground permitting she may run in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes, what a lovely name for a race for fillies by the way, on Sunday at The Curragh.
Pick a little suprised me there not even placing far better than that normally. 710 probrably my bet of the evening at 9s looked good lto when against the first and second favourite here finishing in third behind them . Today sees the visor reaplied a few lbs shed and an intresting jockey change CLEAR FOCUS
Wedgwood estates in the next at bath, the slightly longer trip should be in her favour and has stepped up to the Mark since handicappinh
