Will he pass a medical though. It's been speculated here that he might not play football again. £6 million could be used on Gylfi and free up wages for Gomis?
Can't see how that club would suit Michu and it's a shame if he goes IMO. How quickly we forget that the guy was incredible in that first season and injuries hampered him in the last one. If he's not fit he won't be going anywhere but if he is then I hope he sticks with us because I still believe that him sitting in behind Bony and / or Gomis if it happens makes my mouth water. But his head has to be right and it clearly wasn't last season. That said, if we resign Gylfi he can do a job in that role.
The board face a tough decision now as £6m for a player that may never play again isn't a bad deal. It's a tough pill to swallow though as he's been valued at £25m in the past. The ideal scenario would see him making a recovery ready for next season with the swans and regaining the form which earned him so much plaudits along with the hefty price tag. We'll see...
If Michu is fit, or will be fit by the time the season starts, NO WAY should we sell him. Gylfi is good but he's no Michu in terms of goal scoring potential. Of course it all hinges on whether Michu can properly overcome his injury. I'm suspecting that might be the case because no way would Hammers bid £6 million for a crock. A fit Michu from AM supplementing Bony's goals with the prospect of another quality striker makes me positively salivate at next season's attacking prospects. But with the club seemingly prepared to listen to offers I have to wonder if all is well behind the scenes. It is no secret that Michu was pro Laudrup and he also might be brassed off at the prospect of losing his Spanish amigos, Pozuelo and Canas. Time for Monk to start showing some man management skills imo by trying to rebuild bridges and bring some harmony into the camp. We all know what Michu can do. At his best he's a huge asset to the club not to mention that a repeat of his first season would rocket his value back up to the £20 million mark. Canas is not in the same league as a player but I didn't think he did so badly for a first season in the PL and could easily improve to a consistently high standard. For me, hanging on to Pozuelo is an absolute no brainer. He has obvious talent but is still young and learning the game. He could be a top, top player with the right guidance. I'm only speculating about this situation of course but at the end of the day I think we should do whatever it takes to hang on to Michu and give him the chance to be the incredible player he was for us in his first season. If it works out that would be of far more value to us than West Ham's measly £6 million quid.
Tbh ivor, after the dreadful season that Michu has had because of injury I'm inclined to agree with Downtime. I think we have seen the best of Michu and time to cash in. That said if he does stay and gets himself fit, id happily have egg on my face as at the moment I'd say selling Michu and bringing Gylfi and Gomis in, strengthens our squad more and puts us in a stronger position because of the doubt surrounding Michus ankle.
Agree with Valley. Sell Michu if we have a good offer. The past has gone and we have to do what's right at the moment. £6 million is a great price considering Michu's injury and the doubt over whether he'll recover from it.
I always had a question mark over his injury and also whether him and Bony would ever be able to forge a strike partnership of any kind. But it would be nice to give them a pre-season together to see what they can conjure up. If we get a good offer, I'd reluctantly sell. He's a quality player, but it's hard to know if he'll ever get back to his best. One thing's for sure, he won't shine at West Ham and it would probably weaken them as they struggle to figure out how to play him.
Michu has had some specialist medical treatment and is reported to be ok now. The problem i have with that is we had the same reports about boddie and that he was ok but sadly he never lasted long and we kept on hoping he would get fit and spending thousands of pounds every week on a hope and a prayer. This ankle problem with michu has ruined his season and when you think he could have gone to the WC then it is bound to make him depressed. I think the club doctors should advise the club on his chances of playing this season and go from there. I don't want him to go anywhere if we can use him because a fit michu is a goal machine and i don't want to see him at one of our rivals...
And this is where the problem lies. Do we take a chance on a layer who could get 15 goals next season or do we weigh up the risk of him being injured long term and lose out on £6million that could go towards a suitable replacement in Gylfi. A massive decision for the board to weigh up here.
For me the worse of the two alternatives is for him to go out the door to a rival and regain his shooting boots.
For me, the worse case scenario is we keep him, he starts the first game, get kicked in the ankle and doesn't play again.
Really? Neither scenario is appealing though is it? Let's concentrate on what we know rather than what could happen. If we get to the stage that the medical people have said he's now fit - so much so that he can start - it's unlikely, though still possible your scenario could happen. If it does that means all our rivals will be deprived of his services too. On the other hand we know he's a decent player, that's a certainty. If he regains his form for a rival that's around our level we could regret it big time. We'd make a £4M profit. Big deal.
As it stands it looks like a 50 - 50 gamble either way but I suspect the board aren't into gambling! This is where they have to earn their corn. They haven't done too badly so far.
It's a case of weighing up the risks. I can't see him being a success at WHU because of the football they play so for me we would be taking a bigger risk in keeping him and missing out on somebody like Gylfi, if he becomes available as the reported £6million would go a hell of a long way to getting him.
Agree it's 50/50. The Gomis possible transfer has come from nowhere in the past 36 hours, so I'd like to think they have a replacement (hopefully Gylfi) lined up to replace Michu should he go.
A few people have said that Michu, canas and poz will not play for us again, on other message boards some have said michu actually refused to play for us again when Laudrup got sacked and his ankle problems were more of a smoke screen than a long term problem. That would fit if he is being touted around now, a medical will show his ankle to be fine and its worth noting that Michu was a different player once Laudrup went. Throw in the rumours of a split between the spanish guys and the old guard and the result is Michu not playing because he is "having a reaction to injury" canas and poz sitting in the stand watching a young lad from scotland take the field to play against chelsea at home ! Remember the open day training session,no Michu there ? Id be gutted to see him go but can understand,he only stayed here because of Laudrup and the way that situation was handled has had a far reaching effect on the playing squad without doubt. Michu was one of the best ive ever seen in a swans shirt, plain and simple. Hope its all silly season rumours but the Gomis signing is looking like a replacement for Michu IMO.
