England players too wealthy to care about their country?

Watching the world cup, it looked to me we have no pride. Looks like a part time job to English lads, rather then the honor of a life time. FFS half of them couldn't even sing the anthem.

I dont know, seems as if there isnt alot of pride left in England. If it was up to me i would play the national anthem and honor service men before every game. Fook whoever gets upset.

The national anthem inspires no pride to most I'm afraid. God save the Queen? I thought it was 30m a year in our taxes doing that.

It looked to me that Gerrard doesn't have a hair brush, razor or anywhere to sleep.

If he's our captain it's no surprise we're so ****e, he looks like he sleeps in a shop doorway ffs <doh>

Many years ago at one of these sportsmen dinners the speaker was the Late Emlyn Hughes who was a bubbly character well loved by all football fans as well as LFC ones. In the Q+A session afterward he was asked about the mangers he had played under and was scathing about Don Revie as the first thing he did with the FA was to get the international fee up to 100quid a game. Hughes said that all that he and the other players wanted to do was to play for their country and would have done it for nothing. The players belonged to the club and fans and nbot the agents.

This was pre-EPL so jealousies and and hatred had not arrived and foreign players were few and far between and support of the England was strong so if they bombed they bombed together. From reading various newspaper and other sports sites and chatting with UK friends I can feel the bias by ManU fans towards LFC and vice-versa indicating that the "togetherness" that should run through a team is being attacked purely on tribal lines.

The final line is that as a footballing nation England sold its soul to Sky and we can analyse away forever with claims of who or that is not good enough whilst not understand the root of the problem, which, for my money is the need for a change of attitude about what we have produced in the last twenty years. We have academies, but what is the level of coaching. Smaller clubs players (Soton etc) who produce promising players that are bought by the giant clubs and so it goes on.

'Arry has been around a lot of years so why has he brought this up now? A helf-way decent person would have alerted someone of an underlying problem that needed sorting at the time.

Never mind, Steve Bruce has openly 'applied' for the job.

He'll put things right with his history of loyalty and application of modern tactics.

What young English player can't look at Steve, in his tracksuit, and feel inspired <ok>

Three problems solved by one wheelie bin, I bet he can't wait to get back to Liverpool

I'd also take anything Harry Redknapp says with a huge pinch of salt, he seemed to have memory dysfunction during his trial, I don't see how it would be any better now.

England could do with a Lee Cattermole or, I hate to say, a Joey Barton to to install a bit of pride and fire into the England squad. To unfashionable for the likes of Woy to consider of course, we've got to try and be like other nations after all, wouldn't want do it the English way or anything would we?

Wayne Rooney is, to me, a television set. I don't have one, because you stick one in a room and you have to rearrange all your furniture to accommodate it. So I watch catch-up on me laptop's iPlayer or go down the pub for sports. Fitting Rooney into the England team is the same thing. He's "world class" (is he ****) so he has to be in the team and everyone else gets buggered to accommodate it. Barmy. The same old faces have been in the England team for too long. Granted, Woy has played some youngsters, but we still can't play our way out of defence or retain possession for more than a few passes. Drives you mad...

Hodgson begging Gerrard to stay says everything you need to know.

If he plays for the next two years that's denying someone younger & fitter two years top level experience.

    Same goes for Rooney.

What's the point of playing these people when they'll only get worse and never improve?

Some people claim Gerrard should stay because Pirlo is world class and is older ......... give me ****ing strength <doh>

TBF to monkey boy Rooney, he was far from our worst and even showed a few new things on the left wing. But a tap-in is his first WC goal? Whoopee-do.

As for Gerrard, he was pants from the off and is a completely busted flush at international level.

We need new full-backs anarl, as Baines and Johnson are clearly not the real deal.

Agree with you there Sidney, Baines was utter spunk.
Infact I'll retract that statement, spunk has a use.

Feel for Baines as he's a cracking left back who should have been given a chance and experience far sooner when it became apparent that Cole's time was limited. Roy was slow to act there.

Certainly didn't cover himself in glory this time round.

Oh definitely, That squad needed somebody to force a bit of fire into their belly, a bit of good old English grit. Gerrard looks like that depressed friend of a friend who tuns up at the pub and brings everyone down. You don't think 'great! This is our captain' you think 'not this miserable ****'.

I don't think it was Roy's fault for not picking him soon enough, he's looked comfortable enough prior to this tournament. Unfortunately for Baines, he has just got a bad case of stage fright. It happens to plenty of players, he just didn't have it in him on the biggest stage. United won't go near him now even if Everton begged us to buy him.

Ashley Cole should have went to Brazil, as should John Terry. I firmly believe that we'd have got more from both games if Cole and Terry were in for Baines and Jagielka. Two top class defenders left at home because Roy wants to be seen as the manager who is implementing change. It's bullshit, he's just selecting Cole & Terry's back ups from when they were regulars.

As an anti royal atheist it really does nothing for me haha.

The american national anthem never fails to give me goosebumps as it means something and its for the people not about an individual who Lords over us yet does nothing to deserve any worship or adulation.

Land of hope and glory is better even with the religious drivel.
