The sad thing is their clubs will be delighted - I think that sums up part of the problem.

BTW I'd stick with Hodgson - not exactly many alternatives and they seem to like him.

Saves losing on penalties or being hammered by a world class side...

What worries me is the form the backlash takes and how the FA responds. How many non-British trained players will each team be allowed in each team, and what will the consequences be on the Pozzo vision? How will changes affect the marketability of the EPL? The whole set up is based on a mirage of money which could result in a lot of clubs going bust.

Basically what I'm saying is that knee-jerk reactions to try and produce a successful national team could have severe repercussions at club level throughout the pyramid.

All the problems with England team is down to Watford. Just think of all the great England players that have come from Watford . So the way forward for the F.A. is to make sure we cannot use any overseas players . whats the odds that it will be something like that?

Either that or the FA will push for FIFA to allow a transfer market for international matches.

Belkalem came on after 88mins and didnt have much to do other than win a header and concede a corner.

The possibility two Watford football players appear in a World Cup game nearly happened. Park Chu-young started the match and Essaïd Belkalem has finished. The sadness was they were not on the field at the same time.

Algeria deserved their win. S Korea off the pace for the first half and a great 2nd half goal sealed it for them...... but could have conceded more...

More watchable than the Belgium-Russia game earlier. Nice to see a game where both teams attacked with pace and didn't spend half the game passing across their own penalty areas

Unlucky there - the USA really have been a joy in this comeptition. No fear and they donlt give up. Poor concertration for the goal but, as Klinsman said, they really gave it absolutely everything. I hope they get through

I remember when we tried to get back to the prem.... and Darius Henderson missed two pens in two games... and if he had got them we would have had an automatic promotion slot...

To right and then there was one of our ex players taking a penalty in that final . But lets look to out future , we have owners that are true gentlemen in every thing that they have done and with out them we could be in a very dark place.

    England news conference

    Posted at 20:20
As expected, England manager Roy Hodgson says he will field a much-changed side to face Costa Rica on Tuesday.
"A lot of players will be different tomorrow," he says. "I am handing them an opportunity to go out on a fantastic stage to show they are not just players with potential but that they are good enough for the England team. As manager I cannot do more than that and am sure they will not let me down.
"Ben Foster will play in goal, at right-back will be Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill will be the centre-backs, left-back will be Luke Shaw. In midfield we will have James Milner, Frank Lampard, Jack Wilshere, Ross Barkley and Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge will play up front."

4-4-2 for the Costa Rican nail in the coffin then...

I wonder if Mexico can get through against Croatia. Definately enough skill in El Tri squad, but as an England fan first, I know that doesn't mean much! On another note, Rafael Márquez has been captain of Mexico in 4 world cups! <applause> Who else has done that?
