I wonder if we're getting someone else from Spurs...Dawson/Rose/Holtby...maybe on loan and the higher price for Livers might include some kind of fee?

Unless he signs for a top four club he doesn't stand a chance Roy will not venture to Leicester

Chazz, PLT is one of those cynical fans like those I read in the Manchester Evening News who claim that "United are always linked with X Y and Z to get people renewing their season tickets, but we (that is United) never sign any of them".

Surely you sign your quality transfers as early as possible, yes to keep your club in the public eye (yes I know that will be pulled to pieces by the usual suspects) over the first few weeks of the summer to sell season tickets (the looking forward to August), but also so they are with us for pre-season training - which is important to gel with the squad

Thought the fee that bursey was quoting was a bit steep.

I believe that if we had not met Spurs valuation of Jake we would not have got him.I would imagine that at least one other club would have been prepared to meet the asking price and then there would have been howls of anguish from some posters on here and accusations that City were trying to do things on the cheap.

The market decides the transfer value of any player, we may not like it but that's the way things are.At £6M.-£7M. we have got a player who has his best years in front of him, wants to be here and is well liked by his team mates and supporters. We have paid top whack but quality costs.

We have not paid 'top whack' at all. In 2009 when we signed Jimmy Bullard the average price for a Premiership player was £5m, which is the price we paid for Bullard. I imagine that £6m is not far off the average price for a Premiership player today.
IMO at £6M we have ourselves a bargain.

Huddlestone must be pretty excited we splashed the cash to sign Livermore.

Sounds like we're going to be signing plenty of England and Spain internationals then! (or Australia and Cameroon).

I think that the value of a player for a club like ours, is the amount you'd expect to get for him if we got relegated and needed to sell them.

This was our problem under Duffen/Bartlett, almost everyone we bought was worth less than we paid for them.

This time, we have the likes of Chester, Davies, McGregor etc who are worth far more than we paid, we have Huddlestone, Meyler, Elmo and Long etc who we would easily get our money back on.

The problem with Livermore and Jelavic, is that they are good players who we're spending big money on, but we'd be unlikely to be able to sell for what they cost. Jake at least has the potential to increase his value, but a club like ours should be trying to buy low and sell high, I'm concerned that we're buying high with no chance of selling for a profit.

Ironically, under Bruce, Wigan did exactly what we should be doing.

Bruce looks to be trying something a little different and that is building a team of English speaking players from the UK and Scotland. Pure speculation but I'm guessing some of the bolts that fell out of the Sunderland wheels were probably a mix match of ****ers from all over the place who didn't really get on together.

If there's one thing he's built here it's a team that get along, every face fits.

I agree with that, but it suggests that it pans out overall pretty neutral. A few steals, a few a bit over the odds and the Allam's have enough money to mean we won't have to panic sell. Much less worried than in 09 & 10.

Agreed, but we do have a large contingent of Irishmen and a couple of Scotsmen. Are there any players at the club who don't speak good English (Meyler aside)?
