Already been approached as have messrs Wenger & Ferguson and has given the same reply.....a big loud raspberry! Until the game is radically overhauled in England the position of national manager will be given the wide berth by the majority of top coaches.......which explains the selection of Turniphead, McClaren & Woy.
Exactly. Why would a top coach soil their reputation by taking this poisoned chalice? If the 'golden generation' couldn't win anything how is a team with Baines, Jagielka, Henderson, Johnson, Welbeck and an aging Gerrard going to do anything?? Belgium have more world class player than us and that is a fact.
We need somebody more modern. Hodgson still manages a team as if we're in the 90's ffs. My pick would be Gary Neville, no managerial experience but we have nothing to lose. We've just lost our first two games at the WC and look to set to go out of the group stages for the first since 1958 i think? It can't be any worse. He has a good knowledge of the game, has played at the highest level as a player and understands what it means to play for England.
I'd can't put my paw on what Woy did so wrong. He went with youth and a formation all the players know at club level. He pick a few old heads to lead the young'uns. That's what I saw go wrong. The so called leaders in the team appeared to do nothing. In particular Gerrard seemed to be frowning and looked unsure what to do. Rooney and Gerrard lead by example, but that isn't enough. The team didn't lack passion they looked scared, under too much pressure. National players have to manage that as well as have the will and skills to win. The players all talked a good game in a nice safe hotel room. You do have to question the psychology when you have Army bomb disposal guys putting their lives at risk for a pittance each month and the England team just have to play a game. Self importance, hype and hyperbole all prevalent in our game. You could argue the manager's job is to prepare the team mentally as well as tactically, but we are talking about the so called best players in the country. Does a national manager really have to psych these men to play as a team from their country? Teach them how to handle big match pressure? I don't think so. All this should of been done.
Not much roy could do about captain wonder playing a perfect through ball to suarez with 10 mins left... although if jt and cole were in the squad. ..
Yeah I'm not sure why Woy is getting the blame really. We've played some good football, best in quite a while. We just don't have the centre midfielders right now.
The criticism I would level at Roy is not taking Cole and not trying to convince Terry to come out of retirement. These 2 games has proved what I suspected all along that Jags and Baines whilst very good p.l footballers are not good enough or experienced enough at this level. If we'd have had a solid defence who knows what can happen. However based on the squad he had, not sure there was much more that could be done. The midfield is weak and pedestrian compared to other good / very good teams, the defence is pretty poor and we have only 1 world class player at best.
Roy set up wrong 1st game, no doubt. He made a mistake not taking Cole, other than that it looks as if the players are just not good enough. Being a world beater in the PL means little in World Cups. Rooney can't make the step up, nor can Jagiela, Cahil, or Johnson. Gerard has had it at this level and the youngsters are not yet experienced/ good enough. Also think attitudes of many players from many countries are not too flash. Its the also rans and fringe players and teams that are setting the pace and running their hearts out. Them and the true world class players stand out like the proverbials. Unfortunately none of them from England this time round.Too much, too soon, and for too little effort is killing players attitude from every country.
I said a few things before the world cup: Spain wouldnt win it England would go out in the groups Baines would be shown up due to his lack of European experience Gerrard will be shown to not be the world class player the media assumes him to be It seems I am correct on all accounts.
LOL. Jose won CL on a fifth of the French Failure's budget. And won treble at Inter with smaller wages and transfer fees
