I'm sure the count is accurate. However, the questions were posed in a very "leading" way - three options were available. Something like:- 1. Yes to the name change and the Allams' continued leadership of the club. 2. No to Hull Tigers. 3. Really don't mind one way or the other Many supporters were moved to vote for option 1 but would probably have preferred a "No to Hull Tigers and the Allams' continued leadership" choice. Also, the ballot was not "secret" and some voters feared future reprisals if they were seen to vote against the owners.
Let's have a vote to see if we should change the name of our club to either: Southampton Spiffing Chaps Solent Warrior Ninja Red Boys Scunthampton Buccaneers South of England Generic Soccer Team Sofa Supporters of the World United
The FA announce that they have rejected the proposed name change. The FA Council voted 63% against the name change. No right of appeal but Hull may re-apply next season.
I suppose that it was to stop name changes happening all over the leagues, resulting in a loss of club history. On a one off basis I can't see any harm in it, but wouldn't like frequent name changes every season...perhaps with some advertising.
The City Till We Die group have published their documents and campaign video that were shown to The FA, online. Not606 makes an appearance in their document, which is shown in PDF format. http://www.citytillwedie.com/fa-consultation/
I agree and it was a very childish thing to say as it is hardly important in the scheme of things. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater springs to mind.
It's another example of how (presumably) sensible & successful business people get a bit twisted after being in control of a Football Club. The power & attention they have/get is far more than many FTSE100 CEO/Chairman get & they get drunk on it. Lowe was the same, Cortese to a lesser extent and the list is endless at other clubs.
Assem Allam tells the BBC: "If The FA had approved it but the fans had said no, I would have severed my ties with the club immediately."
Someone said we should be called Southampton Deckchairs on Absolute 80's Radio this morning, I wonder who could have suggested that?
So, having had the name change request turned down - they announced a new crest instead, at 5:35am this morning... please log in to view this image
Really? You are genuinely saying you are "not sure" what Hull fans could possibly be even slightly upset about?
