And yet my sister thinks Southampton is crap. Not the club, but the city. She won't shift in her belief either, besides the fact that Southampton is one of the best situated cities for leisure and all points of departure and commuting. I suppose the city itself is a bit boring, but most newcomers say they love it.

Thing is, she's never lived elsewhere and is dying to get away, though circumstances are preventing a departure to Europe sooner rather than later. I've lived elsewhere in the World and I know Southampton is actually not bad at all. Bit boring possibly, but for the UK, the location is great. There you go, Ronald and Erwin. A potted opinion of your new place of work. :)

People who have lived in the same city all their lives often slate it, it's not until they live in other ****holes that they realise it wasn't so bad after all. Also Portsmouth is better situated for commuting.

Hey, I quite like Portsmouth. I like Southsea. I've sailed into Portsea Harbour on several occasions and it is always a bit of fun, because it is so narrow, and the city is historic from a naval point of view. I'll tell you 1898. All this anti-Pompey, anti-Southampton stuff is contrived rubbish, when all is said and done. It's about time we got over it. We used to get on plenty well enough. I don't see why we can't resume it. Crikey, I was occasionally taken to Fratton Park when Saints played their away matches. It wasn't unusual way back in the 1960s-70s to do that. People still used to do that back then.

Portsmouth is better for a ferry to France but for all other commuting it takes longer by train to London and driving is far worse due to limited roads in and out, and the airport is Southampton so that means the permanent rush hour car park that is the M27

Good points, and our attendances are better, but Pompey has won more cups. I think that's about it!
Seriously, I know lots of people who came to Southampton intending to stay for a year or two but who have settled here. It does have 1000 acres of. Parkland in the city centre and would be better but for the destruction of so much during the war and the lack of planning after.

Agreed. My old man used to take me to Fratton Park as well. In fact, before the age of 10, I saw Pompey play a lot more times than I did Saints (It's a wonder I still like football). The fans there were fine. A good laugh to be honest. We all know deep down that football people are football people, no matter what their club, so all these rivalries are nonsense. That said though, I wouldn't change it, having a rival gives us smaller clubs an extra 'cup final' once in a while.

I saw my first Saints-Pompey game in 75-76 season - I don`t recall any bitterness, not in the Archers Road end anyway. Nor in the lead up to game either.

I have to be honest, when I lived in Southampton I also thought it was crap and couldn't wait to get away. Now I live in London I realise what a great place Southampton was to grow up in. It's also a very attractive City what with the old walls, lots of parks, and the liners coming and going up Southampton water.

Pompey, on the other hand, is just a ****hole. Always has been, always will be.

    Kelvin Davis:

"Obviously I’d like to welcome Ronald and his staff, Erwin and Jan."

"I have to congratulate the board on attracting such a highly-regarded manager. They’ve done a fantastic job in bringing him to the club."

"From my point of view – and I’m sure from the other players’ points of view – we are very excited to work with a man that achieved so much as a player and has continued it successfully as a manager."

"The fact that he sees Southampton as a club that he wants to come and work for shows that he is very committed to us, so we’re very proud and happy to have a man like that in charge and looking to push us forward."

"I’m sure that the supporters will be happy, and he will get the full backing of the squad."

Feeling positive again. Ron came over well in the interview...as if pleased to be here. Interesting to see how the new training facilities are coming on.

Have to disagree, I've always hated everything about Portsmouth compared with Southampton. The town itself is run down and the locals always seem to be a pretty unfriendly bunch, the only saving grace is the Spinnaker Tower, probably because you can see Southampton from the top?
